What to do as a Solo?

I don't know how but recently I have become less than optimistic about my upcoming trip to WDW. I am travelling with myself , DM , DN (Disney Nana) , DB , and DB's DGF . I was very excited to go when we were planning the trip but as it draws closer the less excited I get.

One reason is that I will be leaving my DGF . The other is that I think I will be on my own for a portion of the trip and don't care to go on rides, see shows, go to the movies by myself. So does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions on things to do by oneself?

I'm sorry I can't help you. I make it clear to my family I WILL bw spending part of the vacation on my own to do some of the things you don't like doing.

maybe the only thing I can think of for you to do is go on a tour or two. I went down for 10 days alone and spent a couple of the days doing backstage tours I loved it .

Good luck and have fun . When at WDW I always think " Hey I'm not at Work!! "

you should do the rides and shows You wanna do, i go to disney solo and i enjoy it, 99% of the time i had my own seat on the rides and the shows well if nothing else they're a good place to take a break and rest up

I have all kinds of things planned for my SOLO trip this week...leaving tomorrow...shopping at DTD for CHristmas gifts, watching the animals with night vision glass from AKL, 2 special meals as part of a conference(all Disney)meeting special Disney people from The Origianl Model for Tink to animators and Sculptors and Writers...Halloween Party, Treasure Hunt....Food and Wine Fest...I'll be too busy to even realize I'm solo !!!! Go and have a blast...read the boards and plan your adventure!!!!

I'm just the opposite! I'm going solo in mid-October and cannot wait! I've been married for over 30 years and have never been on a vacation by myself, much less a Disney vacation!

I have all kinds of things planned. So much, that I might need more time! This trip, I get to do all the girly princess things my DH, sons, and even my grandson never want to do--Cinderella's Royal Table is at the top of the list! I even bought myself a ticket to the Party for the Senses at Epcot and the MNSSHP!

I'm soooo excited!

I've been solo before and never had a problem.

Even now with my DH, he will take off to go golfing ... I'll just spend the time riding the ferries between resorts and downtown disney and browsing in the hotels/shops.

I have never felt uncomfortable being solo ... everyone else is busy doing their own thing, so I never felt like people thought me strange not to be part of a group/couple.

Being solo has it's advantages in that you can do WHAT you want, WHEN you want, for AS LONG as you want!!!

It's a lot of fun to have some time alone at WDW -- just being able to slow down and people watch, or take those scenic photos without many/any people in them can fill up a lot of time. You could wander around and get ideas for what would be fun things for you and DGF to do when she is able to go. Don't worry about having fun without her there, or worry about what she's up to at home -- it's okay to have some time apart sometimes.
It's fine to go on rides alone, get your picture taken with characters by yourself, etc. It's a good time to check out rides and attractions to see if they will appeal to others of your family/friends -- think of it as research for your next trip.
You could shop for that special something to take back to DGF. Play mini-golf (of course that is more fun with someone else along).
You can strike up conversations with CMs and other guests. Go around and check out different resorts for future planning.
Read all the solo/single traveller threads on this board and other boards (search with google).
Just relax and have fun -- do what appeals to you that day (or just hang out at the pool!).

Get a massage or spa treatment! I went to GF but folks rave about the Dolphin, too!

I haven't made a solo trip but don't spend every minute with the group....solo shopping or just wandering is fun.....I like to soak in the atmosphere in the parks!

I personally think Epcot's World Showcase is a prime place for solo trips. It's so very easy to start a conversation with some of the CM's from other countries. Also, it's the perfect time to take advantage of some of the tours offered. The Keys to the Kingdom tour is awesome.

I have made a few solo visits to WDW, and have another one planned, as you can see below. I take my good old time and do the things I enjoy the most at The World. And, best of all there is ....

NO WAITING FOR OTHERS IN YOUR PARTY TO: (1) decide what to do next, (2) take photos, (3) rush right by the street performer you would really like to watch for a while, (4) take a rest room break, (5) mill around and study the map, (6) stop to trade pins, (7) use up too much time eating lunch, (8) stop for every character that pops up, (9) stop to press coins in some silly machine, (10) walk super fast when you are really worn out, (11) stop at every gift shop in the park, (12) insist on taking a break at the resort in the middle of the day, (13) not be ready to go in the morning, resulting in increased crowd level by the time we arrive, (14) stopping to rest when you are ready to move on, (15) deciding what to order at a counter service eatery only after arriving at the register.

I could go on, but you get the idea methinks.
