We drew names this year, and I got such hard ones!!!! Any ideas for men ages 50 and 74?????:scared1: We do $25-30 gifts. Thanks so much!

Anyone think gift cards are too impersonal? I love them personally-but I'm not in this age group or gender, lol

I don't think gift cards are too impersonal, especially if you know what kind of stores or restaurants they like.

I would also suggest some type of tools or flashlight from sears or lowe's (home improvement stores).

Maybe something with their favorite NFL team logo on it, blanket, sweat shirt, mug, rug, towels, sleep pants.

My DFIL(76) rides quads and is always out in the woods getting wood so sometimes we buy him nice work gloves.

I was at Texas Roadhouse the other night and saw they had a cute silver bucket filled with peanuts that you could add a gift card to. Cute presentation. If you don't have a Texas Roadhouse it would work for any other BBQ restaurant. I'm pretty sure you can buy the bucket at any craft store.

Not all men are alike....just a thought.

If you have an inkling into his interests that's a start. I mean some guys I know love video games, others would not enjoy that.

I'm not above asking adults for ideas of what they want. You can also ask someone who knows them better than you do - like a best friend or spouse?

Beyond that, I find, in this day and age, most adults basically just go out and get the items they really need/want - at least according to their means. In our family, we've really dismissed the idea of buying each other more trinkets - so to speak.

When we give gifts, we tend to do more experience oriented gifts - like maybe restaurant gift certificates, a store like Best Buy (DVD's) is good, movies theater gift certificates, or a down payment on a summer vacation.

Then again, I'm not above wrapping socks as a gift (for someone I know). ;)
Who doesn't need socks? Who doesn't love warm feet it the winter?

I nearly always give a gift receipt these days if I give a bought gift, that's always good insurance.

If that still isn't enough....then I try to think healthy. Something geared towards making that person more healthy. A good generic gift along those lines is a crate of real, fresh Florida citrus fruit. (also in your price range) If they are involved in any exercise clubs - you could cover a month of member ship or somethign like that. If they play golf or almost any other sport - they probably need a steady supply of new golf balls, gloves, or shoes. (at least a contribution towards a new pair of shoes) There are also some GREAT books out there on health, healthy foods, etc.

If that STILL isn't enough...well then....maybe throw in a few lottery scratch tickets. I wouldn't throw away more than a few $ on them - but that's kind of a fun, open-ended gift - so long as they can get TO the state where you bought them to claim any winnings.

The Vermont Country Store has a couple of sweaters today for $20, regular $59.

My FIL likes these, and he fits that age range.

I was looking at that site last night and ordered my DH some BONOMO Turkish taffy! He loved it as a kid, he's going to be so happy!

A case of beer, a bottle of liquor, things I will never return or regift

gloves, wool socks and those hand/feet warmers.
sharper image electric ice scraper
wine vacuum sealer (if they are wine drinkers)
USB drives
Gas GC and/or car wash passes
omaha steaks package
grill accessories and assortment of rubs/sauces

Thanks all-those are some great ideas! I can't ask anyone what they want because its a surprise, no one knows who has who- NO ONE, lol :lmao:

Alcohol is a no no in my family (not personally, lol) otherwise I would be all over that. I like the lottery tickets idea, and the texas roadhouse idea is really cute. and the grill rubs, etc...Never heard of Vermont co store, will check that out. Neither is into sports or has a hobby really, and both have enough money to buy whatever they want.

I like the gas card too although for me I would think"this is practical, but not at all fun" and I hate that they may think that. I want them to get something they may not splurge on themselves. Very hard ;) But I have some things to pick from now, so thank you very much.

Only if you know they wear sweaters. I have purchased a couple for my husband through the years and he never wears them.

Restaurant gift cards are hard to beat.

Home made goodies such as baked goods or canned items are great too if you know their tastes. My husband gives away LOTS of his beef jerky and pickled okra every year. We also get home canned apple and pear butter and honeysuckle jelly to give.

My 11yo has a male teacher this year and I'm struggling a bit with his gift. I'll probably give him a gift basket of several small items.
