The only thing that is allowed is a small waist pack.ALL other bags need to be locked in a provided locker by the attraction. The locker is free for the length of the ride
I used the free locker at Forbidden Journey last week for the first time when I was there with friends who brought bags. Interesting procedure. First off, the locker room is a madhouse. There are touch screen computers in the walls that assign a locker, you don't choose. It gives you more 'free' time than the stand-by line should last so you don't pay for use - UNLESS you forget to empty it after the ride and you then need to pay $3 IIRC an hour. When you get assigned the locker by its number, you need to put your finger on the sensor while it records you. The nearby locker then unlocks for you so look for it while the sensor is working. It is big enough to cram a medium sized back pack and some other stuff into. When the ride is done, enter the locker room from the gift shop and go to the touch screen again, enter your number, press your finger, pull open the locker door. The biggest problem is the madhouse environment you need to operate in. It worked fine, though.
Most of the machines need 2 quarters and 1 penny that is pressed. Some machines use 5 quarters with 1 of those quarters pressed. I saw quarter machines at WDW but didn't see them at Universal, however, I think there are some. We passed on the quarter machines when we encountered them.
