I was just wondering if anyone brought home treats of any kind for their kids classmates. We are pulling our boys out of school for a week and didn't know if there was anything cute and inexpensive to bring home for the kids in their class. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
Thanks so much!!!! We leave in 18 days. I'm sooooo excited!!!

I've never done this. I've read other posts where people said they brought home treats, but I frankly fail to see the point. :confused3

I have 3 daughters, 2 of whom have graduated college, and one is in high school now. None of the three has ever brought home a treat from a classmate either.

Last year we brought home Mickey head shaped suckers. I can't remember exactly how much they were (Maybe $5?), but they came in a "bouquet" of 10. The kids loved them.

We noticed that many cast members pass out free Mickey stickers. We took all the ones that were offered and asked for a few more which they willingly did. Then we made book markers using card stock. It was practically free and the kids liked (1st graders) them for their daily reading time. Trying to buy something for everyone can get really expensive.

Do you know roughly where you bought these at? I was wondering about this too because we are pulling DD out of school for a week too and she's in first grade..i also like the idea of making bookmarks, do the CM's just hang out stickers freely or do you have to ask for them? and which CM's would I be looking to ask? thanks

I have brought home the Chip and Dale brand pretzels(Mickey shaped) and had my DS bring them in for a snack for the class.

Pencils are good. They are useful and the kids love them. I haven't done them with Disney yet, but we have with other places. NY, San Francisco, and San Diego. Also, no food worries.:thumbsup2

That is very kind of you! But I have to say: forget the kids, you need to bring the teacher home something! Seriously, she's the one who's going to be helping your kid catch up the next few weeks after you get back :thumbsup2

(disclaimer: not that I find fault in folks taking their kids out for vacations, I'm just sayin'...I think it's a nice way to say 'thank you for the inevitable extra help!')

The CM's pass the stickers out around Main Street or while waiting in rides, during the parades, in the lobby of our resort as you're checking in. When they hand out the stickers, we just ask for a few extra's for friends and they start adding up quickly. I've used a few in my scrapbooks as well. Good Luck.

Goofy's candy store at DD has lots of treats. I bought back a bag of taffy for my co-workers last year. I think the whole bag was around $5. They also have boxes of chocolate covered Mikey shaped pretzels.

We always bring the teachers those canvas WDW tote bags (except one time we brought back WDW golf balls & tees for one of DD's middle school teachers who loves golf....and is also a DVC member!).

Speaking as a teacher, I don't recommend bringing back little things for the rest of the class. I know it's fun for you to do, but to the kids it's like saying, "Hey I went to Disney World and you didn't". And btw, 1/2 of them won't make it home anyway. In a primary grade classroom, they won't make it into the backpacks. They'll end up on the classroom floor.

I want to add that some school districts have very strict nutritional guidelines and they don't allow candies or cookies to be distributed. You may want to check with the teacher before you leave to see what the policy is for your kid's school.

At DTD there is a $10 and under shop. They have all kinds of stuff there. Pencils, erasers, and stuff like that.

I would suggest not doing it. First, you are effectively advertising a commerical interest in the classroom. Disney, after all, is a corporation whose primary puspose is to make a profit for its stockholders (not that there is anything wrong with that). Second, you may inadvertantly antagonize students and possibly the teacher who may not be to afford to go to Disney or who's family have decided that pulling their kids out of school for vacation is not right (I'm not opining on whether that is right or wrong). Third, while this is a well intentioned idea, it fuels the on going race to meet or exceed our neighbors - similar to what some people do in throwing elaborate birthday parties and such.

I would say enjoy your family vacation, and don't feel the need to spread the joy. Every family has its own ways and times to own enjoy their own family vacations.

Have a great vacation!

I love this idea! we are going in early December, so will pick up something for the teachersas part of their holiday gift. Thanks for helping me solve that dilemma...every year I'm fighting to figure out what to get teachers...I wouldn't even have thought of a Disney thing!

What Dad Z said.

We live in a very poor school district. 50% of the kids are on free lunch. We tell our kids not to advertise that we go to Disney World twice a year. There are about 5 other kids at their school who have even BEEN to Disney World.

My kids usually bring back the chocolate coins that feature a Disney character. I think there are twenty in a bag and they are around $4. Also, for the teacher we usually try and find a nice versatile mug in the DTD area. They tend to not be so heavily themed and can easily be used for any type of beverage.

Great question! I was thinking of doing something like this for DDs pre-school class (since it's only 10 kids).

For our trip to DL in feb, we pulled our son out of school for 2 weeks (he was in Kindergarten, and let the school know that we were heading stateside during that time). What I did, was have my DS pick out a nice mug for the teacher, and some small things for the class that were inexpensive. I would hesitate about bringing home treats for the kids, as being a parent of kids that have allergies, they have the potiental of having something in them (such as peanuts, dairy), that a child may have an allergic reaction to. This happened to me personally. Bought some taffy for his class to enjoy, only to discover that one of the kids was severelly allergic to dairy, so ended up giving the treats to the teacher instead. Perhaps some stickers, some inexpensive pencils, or other inexpensive items that could be bought instead? This is my take on things, hope that it puts a different light on the matter. Have a great evening!
