We will be staying at CSR in july and will need to take afternoon breaks after touring the parks in the am...we plan to return at night and want to make ADRs for dinner at Garden Grill and 50s Prime Time Cafe...we are staying at CSR what time do you suggest that I make the ADRs so that we have enough time to rest....travel back to the parks and still enjoy some rides

We would do the same thing- usually made our ADR's for 6pm. Then we would be finished intime for fireworks, parades and some rides. The parks will be open pretty late in July so you will have plenty of after dinner park time.

We do the same thing. We make our ADR's for 5:00-5:30 so we go back to the parks, ride some rides and make it in time for our evening park entertainment. We like being the first seating, but that's just our personal preference.

We are going in June and all our ADR's are for 6 o'clock. That way we have time to take our afternoon break without being too rushed to get back to the parks (since you have to factor in transportation time to get back). Also, it's just early enough that the restaurants shouldn't be backed up yet and you can get seated quickly. Hope you have a great trip!

It depends.
The first part of it is how early you go back for your break. We always intend to go back pretty early, but there are days that it ends up being after 2 PM before we leave the park. By the time you get to the hotel, get to the room, and relax for awhile if you have a 5:30 ADR you will be hoofing it back to the park by about 4:30.
Last summer we traveled with friends who wanted to eat at 6 PM every night and we found that it was just too early for us. Of course then you have to factor in the show times for things like Fantasmic if you are planning to see it. It seems like the seatings for the dinner package tend to be really early, but sometimes if you call closer to your trip they have later times open. If you are planning to go to the second performance and you don't care about the "reserved" seating then you can go to dinner later.

You bring up a great point! It really depends on what time you leave the parks for your afternoon break. We always left at noon, so we didn't feel rushed to make it back by our ADR's. There is no way we would have been able to leave at 2:00, get back to the resort, nap/rest, and make it back for a 5:30 ADR. That'd be just too early on that schedule.

We're July people (trying August for the first time this year though!).

Anyway, we are at the parks at opening or near then, leave the park most days by 1:00, and then have dinner between 5:30 and 6:00. It's worked well for us.

A little of topic..but I was wondering I see Whispering Canyon Cafe is open for lunch 12-3 and dinner 5-10. Can we make a 3pm reservation? We want to eat before the MNSSHP and then head over to MK after lunch since they let you in at 4 pm. Thanks!

Yes, you can. That is the last seating until 5, though.

We were at the parks at rope drop each morning and left for a good nap followed by a swim each afternoon. After pool time we had to clean up and get dressed to go out again. On that schedule 5 - 5:30 would have been too early for us. We were usually around 7 and that worked out great.
