We'll be in WDW in mid August and would love to eat at Sanaa.
Was wondering if you have any suggestions as to a good time to go and still be able to see the animals. Grandchildren are 5 & 9, so we can't go too late, and it would be nice to tour the grounds after we eat as well.
TIA!

they are out wandering 24 hours a day.

You can see them if you get a table near the windows. You can also walk out onto the savannah before and after your meal and sit on the rocking chairs there as long as you like.

I'd suggest going there for lunch.

I also would not suggest after nightfall if you are hoping to get a window table and watch animals while you eat. Even if the animals are out, it won't be easy to see them from the restaurant at night. The sun sets pretty late in August so you should be able to get dinner in while it is still light outside, if you really want dinner.

I also believe the animals are not out 24 hours a day. A few hours per day they are returned to their barns.

Thank you, TDC Nala. I hadn't thought about the problem seeing the animals after dark...
I was thinking they wouldn't be out during the hottest part of the day - but now am thinking lunch will be a better time.
Appreciate the head's up.

We went around 2:30p.m. and there were alot of giraffe to be seen!

When we stayed at the AKL (Jambo House) in Sept. they had nightvision goggles from 9pm-11pm for guests to use to see the animals.
The nightvision goggle area is behind the pool bar area.
We were told that the animals do go to the barns for vet care or if they need to be fed (like when vultures are in the area they will feed the Disney birds out of view of the vultures.), but other than that they are out 24/7, and we were able to see some roaming from our balcony in the middle of the night as well (I always peeked if i woke up).

At AK park, I believe that they take the animals into the barns at night.

On the Wanyama Safari it was demonstrated the methods used to call the animals back to the barns. They were not all called at the same time, but there are times when you won't see them on the savanna. It's not necessarily at night either - at the AK Lodge (Jambo House) it was in the morning that they called the animals back.

I still stand by the difficulty in seeing from the Sanaa windows at night, so if your main reason for going there is to try and get a windowside table to watch animals, I'd do it before sundown.

Oh - this is all too exciting! We definitely want to see the animals, so we'll get an early table at Sanaa.
But I think we'll also try to tour the lodge area and see if we can use the night vision goggles to see the animals then as well.
I know the kids would be thrilled (and I will too)!
Thank you both for all the inside scoop.
