Just out of curiosity, how does everyone go back to their room in the afternoons? Whenever we try, the cleaning people are in there! (at CSR) The last few times, the cleaning people did not come into our rooms until almost 3pm, just when we were trying to go relax for a bit before dinner. Anyone else have this problem?

They typically do checkouts first. You can call housekeeping and ask for early service.

I agree with Debbie. If you know you will be returning at a certain time each day, just call Housekeeping and request that your room be made up before then.

Sometimes our room was done earlier in the day, and sometimes it was done later (we have been arriving after 4 some days when the room was still being done). To us, no big deal. If they were making up the room when we got back, we just waited a few minutes until they finished. If it wasn't done at all when we got back, we just put up the do not disturb sign and went in the room for our nap, and they left us towels. I don't care if they do the room every day.

I spent years working in hotels. Check out rooms always receive first priority, as they must be finished in order to check in any new guests.

The other factor at play is the total number of departures/arrivals for the day. If there are few guests checking out, the "stay over" rooms will cleaned earlier in the day. Conversely, if there is a huge number of departures, it wouldn't be odd to return to the resort and discover your room being cleaned at 4:30pm.

DebbieB and minnie mum provide the answer. There's nothing wrong with calling Housekeeping and asking if your room can be cleaned by a certain time...especially if you give them a block of 4-5 hours to accomplish that task.

A few times our room was done. A few times it was not, we put up the do not disturb sign and they always came after we left. A few times they were in cleaning when we got there, we went to the food court or pool to hang out and they were done quickly. Once they were going in when we were coming back, they asked if we wanted to skip a cleaning or have them come back.

I would have thought that, but that has never been my experience at Disney. Our rooms have typically not been ready til about 4pm, so we arrive about noon and spend the afternoon swimming. The maids just go in order from room to room. A few times our room has ended up being at one end and they were the last rooms cleaned.

My Aunt retired about 6 months ago after 14 years working as a housekeeper at WDW and they all start on the Check Out Rooms first then move to the already occupied rooms.

That's good to know. But I've seen differently. Hopefully next time I check in they will follow that protocol.

She has said that there were many times when they didn't finish the Check Out Rooms until 2 or 3 in the afternoon on heavy Check Out days.

It was obvious at Pop because all the windows had little teddy bears or other decorations in the window, so those rooms were already occupied and being cleaned first. My room was the very last one in the row and was cleaned last.

I never really know, I always just hope that when I come back to the resort for my afternoon break, the housekeeping cart isn't in the hallway or in front of my room door lol. Last year was awesome, during my entire 10 day stay, I came back around 12:30-1pm for a break and my room was already done and ready. I had the same housekeeper the entire time and she was wonderful!

As others have posted, the priority is to clean check-out day rooms first. It helps you get earlier room availability for your "Check-In". This means that continuing guests don't always have their rooms serviced in the morning but later in the day or the late afternoon depending on the turnover of checkouts on a given day.

As a continuing stay guest, just call housekeeping on your way out in the morning and let them know that you are going to be out for x hours and would like your room serviced by x time as you plan to return at x time in the afternoon for a break or nap. While there is no guarantee that they can always meet your request. Housekeeping does try to support reasonable requests.

In our case, we don't worry as we leave the room most mornings and don't return until after 6 PM, so we don't worry about our room being serviced later in the day.

Gotcha. She was at CBR her whole career.

Thank everyone for all the responses! We don't have our room cleaned everyday, but on our last trip, we were at CSR for 2 weeks and every time we wanted to go back to the room, they were in there. It was like I could never time it right! I always felt bad because it seemed like they were rushing when we got there, even though we tried just walking to get a snack while he was in there, he insisted we wait while he finished. I will try, next time, to request we be cleaned a bit earlier. :goodvibes

Part of it depends on how many departures/arrivals are happening that day. If you have 1,000 rooms occupied for the upcoming night but only 100 departures/arrivals, that means 90% of the rooms are stay overs. In that scenario, many housekeeping staff will get their daily assignment of rooms and find that they are all stay overs.

On days with lots of departures/arrivals, they will certainly start with the check out rooms. It just depends on the typical stay patterns of a given hotel.

But that doesn't explain why my room was cleaned last. :confused3 It was the same maid cleaning that row of rooms. All were stay overs except for mine.

Maybe what you're saying is they don't always clean new arrival rooms first if there are not many new arrivals? Just from my observations it seems like they start at one end and work their way down to the other end regardless of how many checkins there are.

When my DD was little and we wanted to come back for afternoon naps, I would call and request early service. For many years we went to POFQ and I believe Ruth was the head of housekeeping. She told me that they appreciated knowing that we would be gone early in the morning -- out by 8:00 a.m. -- so they knew what rooms would be unoccupied before they got to the check-outs which often weren't vacated until 11:00. She made a note in our file for early service for our entire stay. In all those years, I think there was one time when we came back to an un-made room. Now we don't care all that much, but it's always nice to come back to a refreshed, clean room.

Yes, that's what I was attempting to say. Disney resorts often have visitors who stay for very long stays. Longer stays mean fewer departures/arrivals on a daily basis. And, it means lots of housekeepers will get assigned a list of rooms that are mostly stay overs.

I'm sure you're correct that lots of Cast Members will work systematically. But, calling Housekeeping and asking for your room to be cleaned "before 2pm" (for example) isn't an unusual request.
