Me (my 9th trip)
Husband (6th trip)
Son - age 16 (5th trip)
Dtr - age 10 (9th trip)
We havent all been together to DLRP since February 2006. In Feb 2007 Husband stayed home to put in our new bathroom and since then Son has decided he was too old for Disney. Anyway when I booked this, our first summer trip, he hummed and hawed and finally (after I had already booked!) said he would come with us.
Fortunately there was no trouble adding him to the booking so the scene was set.
Location location location:
Son has only ever stayed at Santa Fe, but in the last year the rest of us had become quite fond Sequoia Lodge. We firstly decided we would book in there, but then thought that with the long opening hours in summer, we would like somewhere we could go back to for several hours during the day . As we were driving over anyway we thought having a separate bedroom in DCR would be good. After reading a few reviews we decided to change to a 2 bedroom cabin and hope that gives us a bit more room.
Travel:
We originally decided to do what we did in Feb, which is cross through Eurotunnel in the middle of the night and then drive down to be at the Park by about 8.30. I noticed that lots of people stay overnight in Folkestone, but as that is only an hour and half from home thats seems a bit pointless, so we decided to look around for an overnight stay in Calais. Now the plan is to cross over on the 18.42 crossing Saturday evening and we are booked overnight into 2 rooms at the Etap hotel at the other end. Apparently it is right next to the exit to the tunnel so lets hope we can find it easily enough. The aim is still to get up early and make our way to DLRP in time to book in at DCR and get to the Park before 10am. A bit ambitious maybe, as this means getting a 16 year old out of bed before noon.
Meals:
I originally sold the idea of DCR to Husband by saying that we could save lots of money by making most, if not all of our meals at the Ranch. Yeah right. We have booked our meals: - Sunday Brunch when we get there at the Steakhouse in the Village; Monday at 5pm in Walts. Have eaten in Adventureland room and Frontierland, so hoping to try one of the others; Tuesday - not booked - probably Annettes; Wednesday at 5.30 pm in the Silver Spur, an old favourite of ours; Thursday at 6pm in Inventions and finally Friday at noon in the Lucky Nugget. So, as you see, the budget-food idea has gone out of the window, although I have agreed that we should make our lunches back at the Ranch (big of me, eh?)
Plans:
Not too many made. As I said, we havent been in summer before and are a bit worried when I read about how busy it is.
We obviously want to see/do the things we havent done before. Son hasnt seen TOT or Crush or OUAD parade. Neither he nor husband have seen the Tarzan show, Stitch live and it is a number of years since they have seen Fantillusion. We have only seen fireworks once before there (during the Lion King Carnival in Feb 2004), so we are looking forward to that. Son and Husband may go into Paris for the day on Tuesday (thats why no meal has been booked) but it is not definite. We will be meeting Ware Bears on Monday to get Flik. Other than that we will go with the flow.
Other preparations :
None done yet! Havent packed, or even started a list of what needs doing. Should I panic yet?
