What time does your child have to be at the bus stop?

7:05 for my 7th grader (combined MS/HS). He is picked up at the end of our street - about 200 yards from our home. But he gets up at 5am to work out with me in the morning.

8:05 for my 4th grader. He is picked up at the end of our driveway. He and Mom get up at 6:30.

When I was in high school (9 years ago) the bus came at 6:20 as school started at 7:10. When I was in middle school we had to be there by 6:35 and I believe school started at 7:45.

When my dad retired from the fire department he though it would be fun to be a school bus driver. He lasted about a month. Between the kids, some disgruntled parents, and the crazy routes that were impossible to make on time due to under-staffing/budget cuts it wasn't as easy as he thought it was going to be. Now he's an activity bus driver for a private Christian school, works a few months of the year, makes a lot more money than at a public school, and loves it.

I drive my kids to school. I have one in elementary, one in middle and one in high school. They are all on the same campus and they all start at 8. The bus comes to the compound at 7. We live about 8 minutes from the school. I drive them, leaving home at 7:25ish. They love to get to school early! The elementary kids have supervised recess time, inside and out. Middle School has "commons" areas for each grade, on their own floor, grade 6,7,8, all supervised.

High school... I need to ask DS where they hang! I do know that most kids arrive early.

The busses line up outside the school to drop off, so my kids would be sitting on that bus for about 40 min, or can be in my car about 8.

The ride home is at 3, bus gets home around 3:45, we get home about 3:20 in the car. That extra 50 minutes each day is valuable to us!

DS (freshman) gets picked up at 6;50 and arrives at school 40 minutes early. His afternoon bus comes 40 minutes after school lets out and get home an hour and 20 minutes after final bell. He does homework and works with the teachers...

DD (senior) get the bus at 6:55 and gets to school 15 minutes before bell. The bus is pretty much there at the end of the day and she is home within 45 minutes...

Oh, this all depends on IF the buses actually show up:eek:!

My family not only has early bus times but also late bus times, so the times are spread out over two hours! High school bus at 6:25am (school start 7:40), elementary bus at 7:33 (school start 8:05) and middle school bus at 8:25 (school start 9:00). It was so much easier when they were all in the same school! On the return home, I have one who gets home at 2:10, one at 3:30 and the last at 4:30.

Reading these posts sure makes me glad I grew up in the city where school started at 9am.
Of course I'm also gald I lived across the street from all three of the schools I attended.

My high schooler walks to school about a mile. She leaves at 7:10, school starts at 7:50-she gets there at around 7:30 to socialize a little bit. Middle school bus was at 7 and school starts at 7:35. We live across from the elementary school and school starts at 8:05, they leave at 8:03:thumbsup2

Lets see, in HS the bus picked me up at 06:05. I was like the 3rd stop in so I had a long ride ahead of me. I was so glad when I started driving to school my sophomore year. Made my life much easier.

I find it strange that high schools don't let kids come early or if they do, keep them to one area. Our school encourages the kids to come early/stay after to get extra help from teachers, join clubs, etc. They even have an activity bus that comes later after school so kids have a way to get home if they need to. Our teachers are required to be at school early/stay late so they can be available if kids need help.

I can understand if the building is under construction for safety issues but otherwise, why not??
