Hey everyone. What time do I need to leave Disneyland in order to arrive in San Diego at 5:00 pm on a Friday afternoon. I head that the I-5 can be a parking lot. Should I take the 15 instead?

Thanks in advance.

Honestly, your best bet is probably to leave around 1 and then if you end up with extra time, try to find something to do at your destination. Where in San Diego are you going? The 5 down the coast will be a nightmare but at that time, there may not be any better options depending on what area you're trying to get to.

Thank you for the quick answer. I am going to the San Diego airport to pick up a friend at 6:15.

Ewww, yeah, you're probably going to have traffic all the way down the 5 from Oceanside. The 15 would be out of the way, but it might be better traffic-wise. You'll have to get back on the 5 and/or 163 as you get closer to the airport. I'm in North San Diego county, so I'm not sure what parts down there get bad for rush hour.

Actually start walking out of the park at around 1-ish, if you get lucky and have time to spare just something to do, easy to do around the area.

The 15 is also bad on Friday. Tough day to be driving into San Diego county. Honestly 1 pm is the latest I would leave and you will still probably run into traffic. On Friday rush hour starts around 215/30 and it can go real late due to it being the weekend. If it were me I'd leave at noon.

I would tell them to get to the train station, take the train north, and I'd pick them up in Anaheim. (but I adore the train)

I wish the train was an option , but we are going to a wedding in Del Mar. Thank you all for the advice. I think I will split the difference and leave at 12:30. I don't mind sitting in traffic…I just need to be there by 5:30.
