We have decided to go next August (to make sure the new section will be open) and will be staying on site at the Royal Pacific resort. What tickets will we have to buy to go to the new part of HP? Park to park?

You will need to buy tickets that are 'park to park tickets' .They will be required to ride the Hogwarts express between the parks and to experience both Harry potter sections in one day

We always purchase the EP. Will they work the same way even going park to park?
If you want the express pass for BOTH parks you need to buy the ones for both parks. The single park express pass is only good for the park it is bought in

When we book our resort RP the express pass is included for the three days we are there but one park per day. It's the same EP for both parks, they do not issue two different ones. Do you know how that will work with the park to park? Two different passes?

I'm confused. The UniversalOrlando website says this in the description of Royal Pacific:

"SKIP THE REGULAR LINES with Universal Express SM Unlimited ride access* in both theme parks - a FREE benefit worth up to $89 per person, per day**
(valid theme park admission required)"

One of the big benefits of staying at the three older Universal hotels has been that you don't have to buy an express pass; that's a perk of staying at the hotel. I haven't heard that you can only use this benefit in one park per day if you are staying at a Universal hotel. I thought the "one park per day" rule only applied to the express passes that people purchase because they are not staying at a Universal hotel.

Also, OP, if you want to go to HP Diagon Alley, but not HP Hogsmeade, you would not need a park-to-park ticket unless you wanted to ride the Hogwarts Express.

I assume that if you get on the Hogwarts Express in Diagon Alley, you would have to get off at Hogsmeade, which means you would need a park-to-park pass. But I haven't seen this confirmed yet.

IF you are staying onsite you get the express pass free..The post that threw me off was when the OP said they always buy the EP ( express pass). If you purchase express passes you will need the 2 park version. If you are staying onsite it is a NON-issue.You only need your resort guest express pass it covers both parks.

Agree with all of this!

Staying onsite and getting the resort pass usually works out cheaper, and it is unlimited, so definetly well worth it! It's also valid from the day you check in till the day you check out (we've done a one night stay before and used it both days!). I'm assuming that it'll be the same deal as the International Gateway and boat between DHS and Epcot at WDW, and you probably will need a park hopper to do both in one day.

Also: keep in mind that, whilst Dragon Challenge and Flight of the Hippogriff both have Express Pass, Forbidden Journey DOES NOT. Waits can get ridiculous, but by staying onsite, you can get early entry, which definetly helps!

I have a further question on this. We will be going for two days in August and we will be staying onsite. I was going to do one park each day so was not planning to buy the multi park tickets - just the two-day single park tickets. Does this mean that we cannot ride the train?

As of now the only info out there about it says a park to park ticket is required to ride the express. So if nothing changes, than no you wont be able to do the train.

I called the ticket department today and was told that the only way to ride the train will be with a park to park ticket. I bought 2 day 1 park tickets also (at AAA) and asked if I could upgrade them to park to park ( about 40.00 more each ticket for me- I bought these 2 years ago). She told me that she didn't think the hotel concierge could do that and that I could get them upgraded at the park. So, that's my plan! There is no way we are not riding that train, if it is open by August. FYI, the price for 2 day park to park was around 169.00 ( don't know if that was a AAA price quote or not) I wonder if I can upgrade them ahead of time at AAA and/ or get the AAA discount at Universal when I upgrade them there. Anyone know?
