What ticket to buy?

Got a question for tickets the first week of November; where can I get an answer on the Disboards?
We need tickets for up to 6 days total, but could be happy with just 2-3 days. If we buy date-based tickets for 6 days but decide not to use them all, would we be able to use a credit against a future purchase of a Florida annual pass? We are out of state but hope to become residents again soon.
Thanks for any assistance!

I don't think so. the new tickets just expire, but you should look into the discounts offered for the annual pass...they may have something going.

There is a thread just for tickets in the Theme Parks forum

Date-based tickets expire. You select a "start date" for your ticket and it is valid for X-number of days, up to a 10-day ticket is value for use within a 14-day period. A 2-day ticket is valid for use within a 4-day window from the start date, a 3-day ticket is valid for use within a 5-day window, a 6-day ticket is valid for a 9-day window. Any unused entitlements are lost after that use window ends.

A ticket may be upgraded (to AP or just more days, PH add-on, etc.) prior to the expiration. You can use 2-3 days of a 6-day ticket and as long as you are still within that 9-day use period it can be upgraded; the AP would then be active as of the start of your 6-day ticket. But if you were thinking of upgrading a couple of months later that won't work.

It will only go towards the annual pass if you upgrade before the ticket expires. If you get a 6 day ticket and only use 3 of the days, you will need to upgrade at the end of the trip. You can, however, add days to a ticket if you do it before the last park day. So if you buy a 4 day ticket, you would need to decide on your third day if you want to extend it. I think this is your best option if you aren't sure.

You’d actually get credit for the whole ticket, not just the unused days. If you bought a 3 day ticket, that price would be applied toward the AP. If you bought 6 day, that price would be used. Doesn’t matter how many days were used.

What does matter is that you make the AP upgrade before the ticket window expires, or before the end of the day you use your last day entitlement. The other thing is if your original ticket was used during blackout period on the AP you want, it wouldn’t be eligible. You can only upgrade to an AP that covered the days on your date based ticket.

I should add - there is no way to get credit for unused days on a date based ticket.

Yup, not anymore. Remember when a Disney ticket was good forever, until you used up all the admissions you'd purchased? Those sure were the days.

Those old tickets are still good though - but you have to have them converted to new media tickets and I think you still have to do that in person at a guest services location. They will honor them though. Current tickets that are unused also retain their value toward a new ticket, but you have to pay any differences.
