I love my mother's old sheets. I don't know what thread count they were but they are old and they are so smooth and soft!!!

So-what thread count do you use and where do I get great sheets?

While tread count is important the fabric is more so. Chances are your mom's sheets are 100% cotton, any poly in the sheets and they will feel scratchy. I have some 250 and some 400 and I can't really tell the difference. I just got some bamboo sheets that are 250 and they are REALLY soft. I generally get my sheets from Target on clearance.

Mine are 600 but I got them on sale 50% off! I absolutely love them. I got two sets but the dog got up on the bed one day and scratched a big hole in the fitted one so now I'm down to one set. I just wash them and put them right back on!!!

Target has 450 thread count sheets on sale this week for 34.99, any size. I think they would be worth trying for that price!

This thread is funny to me because I have started "dorm shopping" with my Son. He is a terrible shopper and is highly disinterested BUT he does understand thead count now!

My favourite set of sheets are a 600 count

In the winter I love flannel sheets.

I get my sheets at Winners/Homesense which is a clearance style store in Canada. Last time I went browsing around they had 1000 count sheets - I desperately wanted them but don't really need any more sheets, so I was good and resisted the temptation. ;) I also find that the higher the count the longer they last.

1000 and up except for the Mickey sheets...disney doesn’t do quality bedding...and well it was hard enough to find adult size Mickey sheets

I highly recommend these sheets! We bought a set a few months ago, and we love them! They are so soft, and they have deep pockets. I'm thinking about going back and getting a few more sets.

We always stick to 450 and higher thread count, but like a PP said, the type of fabric is really important, too.

800 - 1000 for most of my sheets. I have three really old sets from my grandmother that are the softest of all. There are no identifying tags so I dont know what they are. I dont use them often because I want them to last forever. :lovestruc

We're a family of sheet snobs.:rotfl:

I don't know what thread count they are, but I use Beech jersey-knit sheets that are made out of a combination of cotton and a fiber regenerated from the beechwood tree, apparently, and they are the best sheets I've ever slept on. I refuse to sleep on anything else at home now. They're soft and silky and just fantastic.
