This is truly disgusting. If the Messiah:worship: goes through with this I hope the people jump all over him and anyone who goes along with this idiotic plan.

"The leader of the nation’s largest veterans organization says he is “deeply disappointed and concerned” after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. The Obama administration recently revealed a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in such cases.
“It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan,” said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. “He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it.”
The Commander, clearly angered as he emerged from the session said, “This reimbursement plan would be inconsistent with the mandate ‘ to care for him who shall have borne the battle’ given that the United States government sent members of the armed forces into harm’s way, and not private insurance companies. I say again that The American Legion does not and will not support any plan that seeks to bill a veteran for treatment of a service connected disability at the very agency that was created to treat the unique need of America’s veterans!”
Commander Rehbein was among a group of senior officials from veterans service organizations joining the President, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki and Steven Kosiak, the overseer of defense spending at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The group’s early afternoon conversation at The White House was precipitated by a letter of protest presented to the President earlier this month. The letter, co-signed by Commander Rehbein and the heads of ten colleague organizations, read, in part, ” There is simply no logical explanation for billing a veteran’s personal insurance for care that the VA has a responsibility to provide. While we understand the fiscal difficulties this country faces right now, placing the burden of those fiscal problems on the men and women who have already sacrificed a great deal for this country is unconscionable.”

The only reason insurance companies offer health insurance now is they know the vets wounded in service are treated by the Government and they rightly should be. We owe them this at a minimum. If you force insurance companies to cover these cost there will no longer be any policies available at all to service members and ones that are available will be too esxpensive. The we will have more uninsured people in this Country which I hear you moan and groan about on a daily basis that you say we need to fix.

I have an idea for you Mr. President. Why didn't you use your campaign promise to eliminate pork and your promise to line item veto any earmarks from both the Porkulus and omnibus bills. If you would have abided by your promises you would have not only enough money to pay for medical care for vets wounded in service but you could have built new, state of the art hospitals to care for them. Hey, that sounds like a fantastic stimulus project rather then sodding the White House lawn. I'm sorry, but this guy just does not get it and has no business being the President, period. God, this administration is worse the the previous administration and it just girds my loins:scared1: how incompetent they really are up there! It is truly going to be a long 4 years.:sad2:

President Polosi, "he who walks on water", and all the kings men combined are nothing more than a buncha human excrement that have taken control of our goverment,,knowing that this goverment will end for them soon either by the stupidity of themselves or the will of god,,which ever comes first. At any rate, they are just gonna go completely ape sh... while they can and use the USA as their personal play ground running this country as a dictatorship. We are under their rule unless people rise up !
You can absolutely bet that this crap he/they are doing against the veterans organization is nothing more than a exercise in, "I'm the boss, I'll do what I want, every time THEY tell me !" And why ?? Only for one reason,,BECAUSE THEY CAN !!!

Just my opinion.

Hate to tell you guys, but the VA has been billing private insurance for years, so this is not news nor is it Obama's new policy. The VA's policy has been to waive any copays or deductibles so there is no out of pocket expense for the veteran.

Jim,

Yes you are correct but only for NON-SERVICE(COMBAT) medical care and yes, this is new Obama Policy to make insurance comanies pay for Service/Combat medical care so he can save a measly $540,000,000.(measly compared to what he ha already spent):thumbsup2

I didn't know that. How does that work with Tricare?

Tricare is actually private insurance, contracted by the government. After you are medicare eligible, it acts as your medicare supplement, but it is handled by whatever company happens to get the government contract - usually one of the blues.

Eligibility for VA care is determined by your level of disability. A 100% disabled vet is eligible for all medical and dental care, regardless of what the disability was awarded for, which is what Steve is referring to above. So if you are disabled due to loss of a leg from an IED but develope diabetes or high blood pressure later in life, you can be treated at the VA despite these ailments having nothing to do with the original injury. So if you have insurance through a job but are 100% eligible thru the VA, the VA will pay for your prosthetic limb, but bills the insurance company for treatment for the diabetes and high blood pressure and get what they can. It appears then that Obama wants to bill for the prosthetic limb, too. That will drive up the cost of insurance for all of us, and you can bet your taxes won't go down a nickel if the gov't is saving money by billing insurance.

Thanks, Jim

I think the VA has gotten the short end of the stick for years - nothing will change that, and so much for any administration supporting veterans where it really counts.

I have less than 10% disability for hearing loss - and two purple hearts which thankfully didn't have any long term affect.

A few friends (some of them kids) really suffer from PTSD and I'm sure I've had that - looking back at what a mess I was when I came back from VN. Oh well, I got over it.

The billing policy, which only started within my lifetime with the VA, has definitely helped them with their budget. Their techniques, however, bordered on insurance fraud, which I pointed out to them much to their dismay. I was constantly being contacted by the "coders" asking me to rewrite my notes so they could bill the insurance company for more money, even though I didn't do the proceedure. It's stuff like this that made me leave.

I will say it again

VOTE THEM BUMS OUT until we do that it will never change. and we have to start with the congress.

Here's my opinion...(just hope it's not against the board rules)

I KNOW you had it - although - it didn't have a name back then. I'm sure our father had it too, from all the stuff he went thru in WWII.

As for getting over it....I don't think anyone ever gets over it....they just learn how to live and cope with it.

I think your right there... You just find a "new normal". You can never go back to the way you were before the stress.
