What the heck is with the rehab schedule!

Odd, that link that bilnshel gave does not list It's A Small World, but I saw it someplace else.

Small world has been going on and off the refurb list. It will definitely be down during that time, they may just not have updated it yet.

We're going then as well and it's SO annoying. I wish they spaced out some of these major attractions more throughout the year, but, by end of August, most of the country (minus the northeast and a few other places) are back to school, so I think it's considered an "off" season time to go. I know we go then because the parks are less crowded.

OK. Maybe I missed the boat\notice here, but I need to vent. Were going on our yearly trip to Disney in August. The 14th though the 25th. My first pain was learning that Big Thunder would be closed. Then Dinosaur. I was like, OK, I can deal, but boy, two major attractions at the same time? Now I read that Small World will also be closed starting the 22nd of August? ***? Seriously? REALLY? Three MAJOR attractions all at the same time during AUGUST!?

No one can tell me there is any reason for that. None. Zippo. That's just ridiculous. Not even mentioning that the Swiss Treehouse, Muppets, Little Mermaid Show, and I'm sure a few other things I've missed will be closed as well.

Ah well, rant over. Guess we just have to deal and wonder why I keep going back year, after year, after year. Should have skipped this year and done a Univerasal\Busch Gardens\Clearwater trip.

Bah, I HATE how much we enjoy Disney otherwise!!!!

A rant is justified. There was a time when an army of cast members would descend on the Magic Kingdom each night, that would clean, paint and rehab attractions that would re-open on time the next day. Only on a rare occasion would an attraction be closed for more than a day. Now there are many more attractions and many more parks and the army is gone. Closing attractions is a way for Disney manage labor cost and manage its rehab budget, which is vastly underfunded. If Disney were to increase its rehab budget, the cost would be passed on to its customers, who are already stretched to the limit and bellyaching over the high cost of going to Disney. There's no easy answer.

I couldn't agree more!!! We are there late August - first week of September and were completely bummed to miss out on these three.

IMO, the only major one that you listed is BTMRR, followed by Dinosaur. It stinks, but it could be far worse. It's a roll of the dice which attractions will be down during any given week...

I too am bummed by BTMRR for our possible August trip. It's a big hit with our family and we'll really miss it. :(

I am majorly bummed about Dinosaur because it was closed on the day we went to AK last time. But its a crap shoot - anything can be closed any given day...right?

i knew a while ago about BTMRR and were disappointed but weren't crushed.
then we saw the rest the other day and ugh we are not happy.
my sister and i are going the first week of september and we were disappointed to see IASW will be closed especially since we just got hula girl tattoos based on the IASW hula girls!
we are most disappointed by dinosaur because we like NEVER go to AK because its just not our scene but due to the late hours we were going to PH over to ride dinosaur and see ROL and now we may not bother.

It's a bummer but there is really no way around it. Everyone has a different view on what is considered a "major" attraction as this thread proves and as also has been stated, there are really no more slow months on the calendar. I'm sure you will have a great trip anyway!

We are super sad, too. IASW was closed the last time we were there, too (6 years ago). I have a 2 year old and that is such an easy ride to take little ones on! We are all sad about BTMR, too, and my older 2 are sad about Dinosaur b/c they wanted to compare it to Indiana Jones. IASW was the one that made me the most sad- I could deal with the others but that one made me really disappointed. I know refurbs have to be done- but that is a lot to be down at once.

We were there during our spring break in early March of this year and Soarin was down, Buzz was down both being refurbished. It happens and you can't expect to keep things going like they do w/out any time to maintain them.

I agree completely. Dinosaur is one of our top 3 rides, so that being closed as well as Thunder Mountain is a major blow for us. I feel like if it's a scheduled shut down then they should announce it at least 6 months in advance. I was expecting Thunder Mountain, but if I would have known Dinosaur was going to be closed then I would have postponed our trip.

About how far in advance do you usually find out about closures/rehab work? We're not going until March 2017, so I assume nothing is noted for that time yet...

Big Thunder we will miss, it is one of our favorite rides. Small World doesn't close until our last day in the parks, so that isn't a complete loss for us, and Dinosaur I am pretty certain would ruin my back, so no big loss there either, at least not for our family. We'll certainly miss Big Thunder though!

We have a surprise trip planned in mid-September for our girls. My 8-year-old heard they are refurbing Big Thunder and commented "Man, I'd be so bummed if we went and it was closed!" I'm still snickering about it, and have just told myself "She'll get over it!" I mean...it's a surprise trip to Disney! She better get over it. ;)
