What the 50 yr contracts make it harder to resell the 39 yr ones?

What will the new 50 yr contracts do to the resale market for the 39 yr contracts that many of us have?

Will contracts at VWL, VB, etc. be worth less as people say "I can buy this or that from Disney and get 12 extra years"?

What are your opinions?

I think eventually it will drop the market and when Disney gives up on those contracts it will really drop.

But not yet.

I don't think it will drop for a long time. As more mebers join (see Doc's post of 75,000 and growing) the smaller resorts like VWL and BCV will get harder and harder to reserve at 7 months. Ownership there, even if it is for a shorter period of time will be the only way to get a reservation.

I am hoping that people will value my bCV points, because it is difficult place to get into, during peak times, without 11 month window.

I am hoping that people will value my OKW points, because they can get so many more days, especially in grand villa, at OKW than SSR&S.

I'm hoping to use the rest of the 38 years on my VWL contract, so I don't really care much about the resale value!!! :p

However, my guess would be that in about 15 years or so the value of the pre-SSR resorts will start falling. When they have only 20 years left and SSR has 32, I think it will start having an impact.

stacy6552 hit the nail on the head....if Disney stops exercising ROFR and let's the market determine resale value, we would see an immediate drop, even right now. That's just what would happen anytime you remove artificial price supports in an industry.

I was about to buy a resale when I realized that SS was going for $79 per point. No closing costs, location, amenities, 50 year contract instead of 38 sold it for me.:)
