May 01 has come and gone.

There is a lot of talk about the US stores and which ones are staying open and which ones are closing. They are saying that the discounts for the ones that are closing will start on Monday.

Do you know if your store is staying open or closing?

Last I heard ours was staying open, but that was before May 01. I was in the store yesterday, but the person I normally talk to wasn't there. Everything appeared as business as usual to me, except that they had a sign up saying that it was cash only due to a system change over.

Does anyone know what perks the staff are going to get now? I sure hope they get some "Disney" perks. I think those perks help keep some of the magic for the staff that work there and they in turn pass that magic on to us.

Don't know about the GTA stores but we were in Buffalo yesterday and the location at Walden Galleria will be closing. They had some stuff 40% off but lots was still full price which I thought was odd. The CM we talked to said she thought they had about 6 weeks left.

Thanks to a link in a thread in the Theme Parks forum, I was able to find the list of acquired stores online. (post #85 in this thread - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1789581&page=6 - but it's actually page 40 of the Exhibit B Part 2 pdf which is the last link under Images)

The stores that will be repurchased by Disney and staying open are:
Ontario: Eaton Centre, Yorkdale, Square One, Scarborough Town Centre and Vaughan Mills in the GTA; Limeridge Mall in Hamilton, Bayshore Shopping Centre in Ottawa, Georgian Mall in Barrie
Alberta: Southcentre Mall in Calgary, Kingsway Garden Mall and West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton
BC: Metropolis @ Metrotown in Burnaby
Manitoba: St. Vital Centre in Winnipeg
Nova Scotia: Micmac Mall in Dartmouth

That seems to be it. A total of 14 Canadian stores (and 207 US stores) will remain open. (I think this is correct, in any case...I've been trying to puzzle through the legal jargon in the pdf documents, so I may be entirely wrong, in which case if someone could read through the stuff and correct me?)

I'd say your list is accurate. In talking with the Ottawa store this morning, she mentioned Eaton Ctr, Square One, Scarb, and Vaughan Mills off the top of her head. So, I'm guessing you've followed the legaleze correctly :thumbsup2

I'm just so happy to see Ottawa is still going to have a Disney Store. Can't imagine what I'd do without it!!

I'd say your list is accurate.

If so, then the only three Canadian stores (according to the list) that are closing are Fairview Mall in Toronto, Heartland Centre in Mississauga, and Champlain Place in Dieppe, NB.

I haven't been to the other two, but the Fairview location has never been my favourite Disney store anyway. It just never seemed to have the same selection that I've found in the other GTA locations. However, I think I'll pop by this week if I get a chance, and see if they have any good closeout sales going on... :goodvibes

Well that just bites!! Nothing else is close to here.

Well Ive got to say Im a little sad about the Walden Galleria store closing, but since I was a part of the opening team of Limeridge Im happy that its still open.

Here's hoping that being Disney owned that it will turn around

I haven't read the legaleze myself, but even if some stores are closing, didn't Disney aquire all of them, and are choosing to close them. If so, does that mean that the current onhand stock is now owned fully by Disney?

I'm only mentioning this since I wonder if Disney would put only some product on sale at the Fairview location and then simply send whatever doesn't sell to the other GTA stores.

Woohoo! Limeridge is the one we use!

Me too, closest to me... I don't know what i would do when i need a Disney fix, and now that it will truly be back in the hands of Disney, well :cool1:

I'm bummed the Galleria one is closing - I only live 15 minutes away from there - guess I better go check out the deals later this week if there are any. Now I'll have to go to the Boulevard Mall to get my Disney fix - good thing we're leaving in 19 days to go to the REAL Disney stores in WDW:cool1:

They actually didn't have many good deals at all. Tonnes of full price merchandise still.

Things like plush though we on sale but swimwear, towels, dishes etc were all full price.

We buy most of our disney gear while on holiday at WDW at the outlets.

Boulevard Mall Disney Story in Buffalo area is closing down for you folks in Niagara.

The Disney Store at the Boulevard Mall is scheduled to close by the end of June, according to mall marketing director Betsey Bonvissuto.

The company got word Friday the store would close as part of the chain's sale back to Walt Disney Co. from its bankrupt operator Hoop Retail Stores, a subsidiary of the Children's Place.

A total of 98 Disney Stores will close nationwide.
