Specifically, what pen do you use with your autograph books? A Sharpie, ballpoint pen, marker of some kind? Don't know what to get!

When we went we used the fat sharpie markers and the characters were appreciative. The CM's said they liked the fat ones because they are easier to hold with some of the costume hands.

I have the click sharpies. The characters always clicked them closed for me and seemed to like them

I agree. The fat pens/sharpies are easier for the characters to hold. We had a fat pen, but I think that we will go sharpie next time. I like the bolder look.

If you've seen the big ballpoint pens they sell next to the autograph books, then you'll have a good idea of what they're looking for. A regular ballpoint is difficult for many characters to hold. Sharpies work and if you haven't seen the park pens, I guess I'd say that anything that is as large as a Sharpie or larger would be good.

We bought the fat pen that they had in the parks next to the autograph books.

Side not on the sharpies - some time last year there was a thread started about this and it was said during that thread several times that the CM's and characters didn't like the sharpies b/c if they were to accidentally get the marker on their clothes then it wouldn't come out. Just a thought!

Costumes?????:confused3 :scared1:

I agree the characters like the fat sharpies.

Here's a plus to the WDW pens (the big ones sold next to the autograph books)....if they break or run out of ink, any gift shop will/should replace them with another, free of charge.

When ours would no longer work, a CM told us to go into a gift shop & tell a CM in there. That CM let us exchange it for a new pen. (She could see my kids standing there with their autograph books, ready to go get more autographs).

Click-It Sharpie

I found some markers at Crafts and Such that are "click-it" like the Sharpies, but not permanant. I have started keeping them of them in our "Disney" bag. I bought a pack of 6 colors to use during DDs birthday party at 1900 Park Fare - I had each of the characters sign 4 sheets that I then put the group picture of DD, her 3 friends and the character. I liked the assortment of colors and used one to compliment the paper.

I've used the fat blue pen and other thicker pens, but in a pinch - I've used a plain ball point pen too!

Retractable Sharpies! We started with a fat ball point, but I think that the marker is easier to hold and the marker writing is easier for the character to see.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...

If you must use a sharpie markers do NOT hand it to your child. Hand it to the character yourself. A 7/8 years old with a sharpie destroyed my child's shirt. It was one of a matching set of six....I was :scared1: :scared1:

Who gives a child in a line a sharpie????? The mom saw it happen and said nothing. I just gave her the look.

I found some big, fat crayons at the Dollar Tree that had glitter in them. Each day, I'd throw a different color in DS's fanny pack. They worked great! There was no mess, they were easy for the character to handle, there was no cap to worry about, and the siggies looked so cool written in all the different glittery colors.

I am NOT taking a Sharpie - I just can't imagine the hours of Laundry Stress! Especially staying at a hotel without all my laundry magic potions! (Alcohol will help remove sharpie for starters.)

Sadly, alcohol just left a huge black smear on his beautiful tie dyed shirt.

anyone else use thick crayons? i really like that idea as we'll have a 2 year old who needs to hold EVERYTHING and i can only imagine the mess a sharpie would make with her

When DD was little, we used fat crayons. Since the Sharpie click markers came out, we use those. In between, we just did a variety of pens. First time I saw those retractable Sharpies, WDW autographs were the first thought I had!

The one's I bought were Foohy brand - these say non-washable like the Sharpies, but they are 6 different colors for about $5.00, which is a bit cheaper. DD got a mark on her favorite POTC shirt and it did come out without any extra help - maybe it was the type of fabric - it was not a cotton T-shirt.
