What sort of gifts did you receive that you liked? Help me get ideas for next year!

One of my co-workers has been talking about wanting to learn to knit. I gave her a learn-to-knit kit with a book, needles and yarn. She gave me a Starbucks mug, coffee and teabags. I gave my other co-workers one of my hand-knitted scarves (she's always cold!), fluffy slippers and a personalized keychain. She gave me socks (like she does every year - it's become sort of a joke between us), a bunny ornament and earrings.

My DH and sister both got hand-knitted scarves from me (among other things). I gave my brother some nice olive oil and vinegar. I also bought several calendars for family members this year.

One of my favorite things to receive are gift cards. Everyone in my family ended up getting lots of them this year (we have some shopping to do!).

I got my husband an LED flashlight, and he loves it! He took out his old flashlight and turned them both on to compare....and wow that LED flashlight really lights up! They vary in price, but I got him a Maglite (popular brand) little flashlight for around $20.

My favorite gift this year was an LED flashlight too. It is the headband kind that joggers/bicyclists wear. I use it for my knitting/crocheting. I wear it around my neck instead of my head. And now DH is much happier because I don't need to have the overhead light on all the time. And I can point the beam directly on my work. Works much better than any lamp/light I have in the house.

This is such a great gift idea. I would have loved to have received such a thoughtful gift.

I am trying to have less "stuff" so I really love gifts that are experiences. Movie tickets, gift card to Starbucks (for the coffee drinker) membership to the zoo or a museum, local theatre tickets.

I agree! I would love tickets for these things. They are great gifts.

I prefer to give these kind of gifts as Bday presents to DD friends as well.

I had another idea this morning during a meeting as everyone was drinking their coffee drinks: those reusable coffee cups, they have some cute ones out there. You could pair it with coffees and teas like several suggested above.

I received a bottle of wine from Middle Sister's Winery. the specific variety was nicknamed "Drama Queen" (although...truth be told...I got the bottle from my sister who IS the drama queen.

Yes...I am the middle sister of three girls.

I would assume this is in the $10 range...as that was our limit.

I like to get the little bottles of lotion from bath and body becasue it lets me try new fragrances without having to buy the big bottles only to find out I didn't care for it.

a great pair of socks -- a really heavy kind I wouldn't buy for myself. Like ones from Lands End or LL Bean.

DH & I are known for our love of St. Augustine, FL & anything "beach-y", so, this year, for my sister & BIL & DH's 3 brothers & their wives, we ordered bottles of Dat'l Do It BBQ sauce which is made in St. Augustine, FL. We also ordered some chocolate-key lime chocolates in the the shape of seashells from Whetstone Chocolates, a chocolatier in St. Augustine.

I packaged a bottle of BBQ sauce w/ around 10 chocolate shells in sage green tulle tied w/ raffia w/ a tag that read "We wish you a sweet Christmas & a Spicy New Year!"

If you keep the plastic tray that your scents come in you can pour the wax back in while it's still liquid. Makes them easy to store.

I thought of that but was afraid of spilling the wax. I'll try it next time! :thumbsup2

I LOVE this! Please let me know how it tastes. I am also a middle child, and my best friend is a middle child... we always talk about our dramatic sisters! This will be a must-do for her if it tastes decent (still may be a must do, just for the label!)

My husband gifts lots of jars of picked okra, which he makes. It's the easiest thing to can and very inexpensive. He also gets jars of apple and pear butter from a friend for gifts.

The majority of our family and friends got Mikasa Wavelength Hostess Sets from us for Christmas. They retail for $49.99 but I got them back in March at mikasa.com during a deal of the day for $7.99! No one could ever tell that I got them so cheap as they were a very nice set. They were very heavy and well they are Mikasa! Check for deals throughout the year. You don't have to look cheap by shopping smart.
