What songs make you sad?

I keep thinking of more songs I want to add -- 100 Years (Five for Fighting), The World I know(Collective Soul), Save a Prayer (Duran Duran), Lightning Crashes (Live). I could go on and on.

To those of you who like 'Run' (Snow Patrol is one of my absolute favorites!). This version of it is amazing

Candle in the wind tribute to Princess Diana

That song still gets to me, I remember when she died and watched the funeral and I sobbed. I can't even listen to it now without getting teary eyed.

When my DF passed away, on the way to fill out paperwork at hospital to have him released, I heard "Jesus walks" by Kanye West -not a particulary sad song, but the circumstance and Live like you were dying by Tim Mcgraw-I am diverse in my musical taste. I can't listen to these songs and it is almost 6 years since DF passed away.

"Light up" by Snow Patrol
"Home" by Michael Bubble
"Fix You" by Coldplay (I want it to be my father/daughter dance at my wedding)

Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton

Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce

It was playing as I found out when I was in high school that a friend had committed suicide.

agnes!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "The Dance" by Garth Brooks. The angst in that song is subtle but palpable and the storyline behind the lyrics -- which anyone who has ever lost a love can relate to -- literallys tears into the listener during the refrain. It doesn't matter where or when I hear this song, it immediately puts a somber aura over me.

Looking back
on the memory of
The dance we shared
beneath the stars above
For a moment
all the world was right
How could I have known
you'd ever say goodbye

And now
I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end
the way it all would go
Our lives
are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Holding you
I held everything
For a moment
wasn't I the king
But if I'd only known
how the king would fall
Hey who's to say
you know, I might have changed it all

And now
I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end
the way it all would go
Our lives
are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Yes my life
is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
but I'd of had to miss the dance

Amazing Grace-played at my brother, then my mom's funerals

When I said I do but Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black--was playing on CMT behind me when I held my mom's hand and she died.

Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice-- my brother's favorite song.. it was playing in his truck when he died.

There's another song that's by a young girl about her and how she's like her mom that makes me cry too. I just can't remember the name. It reminds me of DD19.

Starry, Starry Night...by Don McLean. It's about the suffering and suicide of Vincent Van Gogh.

I always cry whenever I hear "Slipping Through My Fingers" by ABBA.

"Butterfly Kisses" and "I Hope You Dance" always make me cry, and more recently "I'll Follow You Into the Dark". Oh, and "My Old Kentucky Home".

Starry, Starry Night...by Don McLean. It's about the suffering and suicide of Vincent Van Gogh.

I've heard the Josh Groban version, but not the Don McLean one. I will have to check it out- that song is so haunting but beautiful.

Danny Boy and Someone is Missing this Christmas remind me of my dad and makes me cry every time.
True Colors - Cyndi Lauper (I can't explain why)
Rainbow Connection
Recently I heard Book of Love by Peter Gabriel and was a mess by the time it was over.
Also, any well sang version of O Holy Night or Ave Maria will choke me up.

What a Wonderful World (Loius Armstrong) was my wedding song and it makes me happy. (someone listed it earlier as being sad) It just goes to show that music can strike us all so very differently.

I always cry whenever I hear "Slipping Through My Fingers" by ABBA.

OMG...yes! Reading through this thread, this is the only one that made me tear up just thinking about it!

Reminds me of my older daughter, and how she's only 5, but is already growing up so fast. I've seen Mamma Mia (the stage show) twice now, and was a big bawling mess both times. I think if I ever see it again, I'll be excusing myself to go to the restroom during that scene!

Oh, and another one that gets me is "We Go On'...the song they play at the end of Illuminations. And also the "Let There Be Peace on Earth" part that they add on during the holidays.

"Walking Her Home" by Mark Schultz, the lyrics kind of mirror the book/movie "The Notebook", and "Cats in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin.
