What song did you choose for the "first dance" at your wedding?

"Grow Old With Me" by Mary Chapin Carpenter off the Working Class Hero - Tribute to John Lennon CD.

I haven't been married yet, but I used to have a song that I wanted for "our" first dance. But a dentist appointment changed it. Let me explain.....

I love Beauty & The Beast. It's my favorite Disney movie, I love the story, the music, etc. I've seen the broadway show 2 times. So I always thought I'd use the theme song for the first dance at my wedding. So one day about 4 years ago, I'm sitting in the dentist chair, having some work done. The radio is playing in the background, the dentist & his assistant are talking. The Beauty & the Beast theme song come on. The dentist says to his assistant " I was at a wedding once & that was the song. What are they saying, he's some kind of beast?" I was crushed. So I guess when (and if) the day comes, I'll pick another song!

We danced to "Come What May" from Moulin Rouge...our "movie of the moment", at least at the time. It was a TAD too long, but I wanted a song no one had ever used before and I got it...all 5 1/2 minutes of it.

My dad picked out Elvis Costello's "She" as our father/daughter dance. It was by far the best f/d dance song I ever heard, at any wedding. My mom cried through the whole thing (and the videographer got every moment). I was awed by my dad's taste in music, particularly since his first choice had been "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." :)

Cool thread.

Our first dance song was "Your Song" by Elton John. We were married in August 1995.
My father and I danced to "You are so beautiful to me" by Joe Cocker....my father picked it and surprised me!

Good question. Don't laugh. I know this is the disboards so I feel okay revealing that I was married ten years ago and our wedding song was "A Whole New World" from Aladdin. We didn't choose it because it was a Disney song. We chose it because the words were appropriate for us.

We have good friends that were also married about 10 years ago and used "A Whole New World." So don't feel bad! AND they used the version in the movie with Aladdin & Jasmine singing too!

I was married in 1994 and our song was "I Swear" by John Michael Montgomery. I still tear up when I hear that song. Whenever we are at home and that song comes on the radio, he makes me stop what I am doing and dances with me.

I love my hubby . . . I'm tearing up right now as I'm typing this thinking about all of the times, out of the blue, he shares a slow dance with me.

How funny you posted this..my dh and I were just talking about it the other day. It was supposed to be the song from Sheriff "When I'm with you" but the dj's couldnt find it and instead of asking us to provide the music they picked "You are so Beautiful" I STILL hate that song-always have. But it sure is a fun story to share...
