What size car does a family of 4 adults really need ?

We're thinking a minivan, because of the luggage, but realistically could we live with something smaller ? Just need it really to go from Airport (Tampa) to hotel, then transfer to Hard Rock after 1st week, then finally back to airport. Figure we'll have one large bag each and a crry on each.

Hate paying for a car that just sits around, bu also am averse to the inconvenience of renting, then dropping off, three times.

Thoughts are appreciated.

Anything larger than a midsize is a very comfortable choice for a family of four with luggage. I am sure there are families who can even squeeze into a midsize. A Minivan would be nice, but probably a little more than you would need, and usually double the $$ of a midsize. Our family of five (three kids under 10) had a SUV reserved, and when was not available we opted for a Caddy, and enjoyed it over our 10 day visit, we drove it everyday, even if only to the parks and back - and that was staying at the Contemporary!
