What should I do? To rent or not to rent?

I just became a DVC member this year and started out with 150 pts. Of course, that's not enough to take a week-long vacation so we decided to bank this year's points until 2008. Well, our kids are with the in-laws :cheer2: and now we're considering taking a short (3-4 days) vacation to Virgina within the next couple of weeks. I'm trying to decide whether it would be more economical to borrow points from 2008 or just rent a few points to cover the vacation. Since there are no DVC resorts in VA I'm thinking renting would be the best option but I'm not sure how much it would actually cost to rent in comparison. Anyone got any advice?

Thanks!

I don't see any Concierge Collection options in Virginia, so I don't know if you have any options to use points for a short stay. Everything I see in Virginia is a World Passport Collection -- a week stay.

If you find something you want to use points for, I would borrow points, and I'd be sure to compare the cash cost to see which is a better value. Cash is sometimes less expensive.

Renting points for a non-DVC stay is probably not a realistic option, because of the complexity of the exchange process and the risk to both parties.

You'd need a transfer of points, not rent points, to add them to your points to make the number of points needed for the one week stay.

This is an excellent idea if you find something you are interested in. It removes the risk to the other owner and gives you what you want.

Just be sure you know what you are doing with the transfer. It can get pretty complicated.
