What was it that made you take the plunge for DVC? DH and I toured SSR and did the presentation and are definitely interested but it seems like a lot of money and we keep going over all the "what ifs" is life.

So was there one thing that made the decision for you?

Trying to change my clothes behind a plant because the one very small bathroom was occupied. Thinking, $400.00 a night (BWI) and I have no privacy. Hmm. DVC doesn't seem that expensive. I have never regreted it!

Just a bullet list for you ;)

* Inflation proof
* Room upgrade
* Equity
* That feeling of being a DVC MEMBER !!!! :banana: :Pinkbounc :cheer2:

Those are the kind of things I want to hear keep it coming.

What sealed the deal was:
1)upgraded amenities with not having to worry about the prices of it going up every year.
2) the feeling that I ''own'' or belong to a piece of the magic.
3) ''forces'' me to take more vacations.
4) knowing that years from now, I will still have a special place to visit at WDW.

For us:

  • Cost - the cost per point for rooms is better than any "regular" resort price.
  • Better accommodations - We're looking at having to have either two rooms at a value resort, or upgrading to a moderate (that sleeps 5) or a deluxe resort in the next 3-5 years. That all leads back to the first item. ;)
  • Flexibility - if we want to have two small trips (airfare willing), we can do that. If we want to save and have a big family trip with grandparents, siblings, or any combination thereof, we can do that too.
Plus, there is that little "We're DVC members!" feeling you get, too. :cool1:

love the resorts, atmopshere, theme - at all the DVC resorts.

my relaxed lifestyle.

you can actually relax on a WDW vacation - that doesn't happen to a lot of people.

the WDW transportation service - I know it gets some complaints - but it is a pretty wonderful service.

being at WDW...not near...not close...but at WDW. big difference.

back when I joined the free tickets we got - now - the annual pass discount.

also on those times when you need to - DVC points are fairly easy to rent.

other timeshares you are doing good to get your maintence fees out of the rental - you can do better with DVC.

Visiting our good friends, a family with 4 children, in their spacious 2 b/r at VWL. At the time, our family of 5 was crammed into a single room at the Marriott.

We really like WDW!

Knowing that with ROFR, we could sell down the line and believe that most of our money will be intact.

]"If "if" was a fifth we'd all be drunk!" :rotfl:

I guess that kind of shaped my outlook on life. There is always gonna be something but at the end of the day, Im going to WDW! It is a priority and a plan and it keeps me moving some days.

I think of it as my long term DISability plan. I can check into DVC whenever I need a break from the stresses of life. I don't call a Dr., I call Member Services! :rotfl2: Sometimes I need a Dr. and Member Services!

They built a DVC at Wilderness Lodge. Case closed. :)
Dh is really kicking himself that we missed out on WL. I can understand your thinking.

The 2 Bedroom Villa for our family of 5. No more huddling in the dark while waiting for the girls to fall asleep in our expensive deluxe resort room. No more watching TV in the dark with the volume low. Overall, room to spread out and get comfortable. :sunny:

Go check out the 'codes and rates' board sometimes:

- what if no code comes out?
- XXXX month code watch
- should I book at rack and wait for a code?
- should I buy an AP for a code?
- can I use a child's AP for a discount?
- AAA vs AP discount
- what were the historical discounts?
- what if there are no more codes?
- I didn't get a pin code?

Now go to the DVC board - aahhh, peace - there is no worries about codes and discounts!

What sealed the deal:

1) We realized what it was going to cost to spend 7 nights a year at the BC over the next several years.

2) We would be "forced" to go on a real vacation. We could never see the money being so tight, we couldn't afford to drive to Disney and at least stay at the resort and cook in the room.

This last actually decided my husband. Shortly before we bought, we buried our remaining parents. First my Dad, then his, in a matter of weeks. The only vacations we did as kids were to visit relatives. The rest of the time we stayed around the house. My parents always talked about how they would travel once they retired. We decided not to be our parents when it came to vacations.

Renting points for a 2B at OKW. Vacations have never been the same since...

You can still own VWL if you buy through resale. Click on The Timeshare Store graphic at the top of the page for more info.

What did it for DH was when he realized that we could use it for vacations and IF he no longer wanted it we could sell it and get back most of what we paid for it. Meaning our vacations would only cost what our yearly maintenance was (which is also partially tax deductible).

We went cheapo to WDW before trying to have kids and stayed at the econolodge (2000). We went to a timeshare presentation - nightmare!! Saw a DVC kiosk at BWV and started talking to the lady. Took the tour and saw the amenities --- SOLD!! We love WDW, new we were going to have kids, wanted a nice room to stay in with a kitchen option!

Fast forward... two kids and 3 trips later, we just bought 120 SSR add-on. The idea that we can enjoy ourselves in a relatively safe environment and at a beautiful resort (all DVCs)...priceless! :cloud9:

Good luck with your decision!

"If "if" was a fifth we'd all be drunk!" ----what a great quote!! I've got to remember that one!! :rotfl2:

This is our other issue. DH is 90% sure he wants DVC whether we go with SSR or resale at WLV is the next question.
