What rides may spook a recently returned soldier?

MY SIL is returning from Kuwait/Iraq on October 7, from a one year deployment, and we are planning a family trip on Oct 30. He is a little concerned about rides that may make him jumpy, or scare him (post traumatic stress stuff) with loud bangs or shots, or jumpy out at him.

I could come up with a few:

Great Movie Ride (cowboy/gangster portion)
Fantasmic
Behind the Scenes tour
Indiana Jones
Stitch
It's Tough to be a Bug
Expedition Everest

But, I can't seem to think of any more.

Can you all give me some other ones, so he can be fully prepared. He said he thinks if he is prepared, he can enjoy the rides w/o worrying about the unexpected.

Thanks in advance!

I'd go through the most recent Unofficial Guide and let him read the descriptions of the rides. They tend to have good warnings and decriptions. Dinosaur scares the heck out of me. Also, get the moist recent WDW planning video. That may help as well.

A huge thanks you to your SIL and much pixie dust for all of you on your trip!

You have the two that first came to my mind -- Indiana Jones, and Catastrope Canyon on the Backlot tour. I'm not sure Everest would trigger him. Sometimes I see posts for ride videos. With a search that could help him prepare for the trip.

Dinosaur has a big jump-out-at-you and is loud
Indiana Jones and MGMs Backlot tour have explosions
Do they still shoot on the Jungle Cruise?
It might be a good idea to start with a ride that is short or where you can leave easily if there's an issue. He can decide how well he'll actually handle things without, say, feeling like he's stuck on the Backlot tour for another 20 minutes....... There is so much to do that he shouldn't feel at all bad about it if he wants to skip the loud/startling rides for now.

I hope you all have a wonderful trip!

I forgot about Dinosaur! That one scares me every time!

I doubt he'll take the time to read a guidebook, since he has two babies he's getting reaquainted with. However, he asked me to make a list with descriptions, and he'll look it over. I'll also prep him before we board any rides.

I would tend to stay away from any of the fireworks, ie. fantasmic, wishes, or illuminations.

I thought about Fantasmic, but didn't even think about the regular fireworks and Illuminations. We're also staying at Saratoga Springs, do they still do nightly fireworks at Pleasure Island? If so, can they be heard at Saratoga Springs?

So much to think about!

Aren't there still a lot of shots going off in Pirates of the Car.??? I seem to remeber cannons?

just wanted to add that pirates spooked my vet husband the first time he went thru. those cannons in the the water battle part. they are even louder now that they have refirbed that ride.

No advice on the rides, I just wanted to thank you to you and you SIL for a job well done! As a military family, we completely support all of our men and women in uniform!

Haven't seen it mentioned yet - Haunted Mansion. Those pop-up things in the attic and graveyard startle me EVERY time, even when I KNOW they are there!

Yes, I'll add Pirates and Haunted Mansion to the list.

dreamergirl78: thank you too. We are very proud of our soldier, and so happy that he comes home soon!!!

The stunt show at MGM has shooting. The whole thing is a car shoot out and there are explosions as well.

Just wanted to add that your signature picture is adorable! I'm so glad your SIL is coming home! My BIL is over there right now on his 2nd deployment and we have about 9 months to go.

I would stay away from Soarin' also, with the loud fireworks at the end. I'm not sure if Space Mountain would be a candidate. There is the blast off at the beginning. Good luck! :sunny:

The stunt show!! I thought about that one the other day, and then promptly forgot it. Yes, that would definately be a trigger, thanks!

Please tell your SIL thanks and after all the work she has done to ensure that we are all happy and safe enjoying our WDW vacations and freedom, we send mega pixi dust to her! She deserves the best WDW vacation ever! And thank you for letting us use one of your loved ones to protect our freedoms.

Thank you
Thank you
Thank you

EjandMD, Again, thanks for your appreciation of all our troops are doing for us. Yes, we are proud of our son (in law, but more son than in law), but we are also so happy he's coming home!!!! I am hoping for extra pixie dust this trip, since it's the whole family, including the three angels in my sig (my grandaughters!!!)

Expedition Everest should be ok. There really isnt anything that "POPS" out at you so to speak. So I wouldnt worry about that one.

I haven't been on it, but I thought the Yeti jumped out at you?
