What resorts are most available two or three months till your trip?

Ok, I have two rooms booked at CBR for next May, 17-19 for a couple of nights before our Dream cruise. But my mother in law asked about renting some DVC points and staying at a deluxe. I told her I would look into maybe 60-90 days out, but not really until then, making sure we were still getting to go and so on. So what is generally available say two or three months before your date? I was thinking probably SSR or AKV maybe? Also, what type of units are usually available, studio, one or two bedroom? If I do go this route I may use David's site. TIA

There are times when nothing is available 2 to 3 months out. However, the one that is most often available when there is nothing else is SSR, followed by OKW, AKV sometimes. There is always a chance something may be open anywhere. As to types of units, there is no clear pattern and it could be any at SSR or OKW and more likely savanna view at AKV.

Ya, SSR is what I was thinking. And I get those last minutes emails from Davids site for this resort every month.

You will never know what resort has openings until you call. I have called two or three months out and had my choice of resorts (depends on what days/size unit you want). But the largest resorts are SSR/OKW/AKV so they usually have availability the longest. OKW has lower points requirements, so it goes pretty early and AKV is still pretty new (and still has some undeclared if I am not mistaken).

SSR is usually last, less because of the resort itself (very nice resort, nice rooms, etc) but because it gets a bad rap by a lot of members....IMHO. It doesn't have any downsides that AKV and OKW don't have (except point costs at OKW). None are walking distance to a park or near a monorail. AKV has animals, but OKW and SSR have DTD. SSR is newer than OKW, so it is all just subjective between them.

That's true. It also depends on what time of the year it is. I've called 2-3 months in advance (when Southwest tempts me with a sale) and gotten VWL, BWV Boardwalk view, and HHI. However, I'll bet I wouldn't get HHI on such short notice in the summer, nor would I get a BWV Boardwalk view at F&W festival time. And I'm pretty sure I'd have trouble with VWL at Christmastime. Oh, and one September I got BCV for 2 days of my 4 day trip.

The biggest problem I see here is time. If you wait 60 to 90 days out to start looking for someone to rent from, it could be days or weeks before you find the right person that agrees to the same conditions. With it that close to the day of check-in the person will probably request the full amount up front. I think it is unlikely that you will have many choices on where you stay. But it doesn't hurt to try.

This really all depends on how flexible you are and time of year. On our next trip coming up in a few days, we planned it just a month out and we had options for the normal SSR, OKW, and a night or two here and there at other places. We ended up with a 1 BR at BWV on the Boardwalk for 2 days and a 1 BR at BCV for another day.

Again, if you are flexible and work with MS, you can usually find things. Very rare we haven't found something although it is MUCH easier to find something futher out.

I just called MS today and made reservations for Jan 16-25 (just a little more than a month in advance). We were looking for a 2BR at OKW. We were able to book a 2BR at OKW for Jan 17-23. We did a waitlist for Jan 16 and Jan 23-25 at OKW and booked a backup room at SSR.

SSR had availability for a 2BR during the whole time, and I think that there was a 1BR for the whole time. MS told me, "I have a ton of rooms available for those dates at SSR."

There was very limited availability at other resorts for consecutive dates.

Thus, my experience today was that if SSR fit your needs, then you'd be in fine shape in January even at just a little over 40 days out. Hope that helps.

I called for a studio for mid October(I had a 2 week window of when I could travel) at the end of July. Only place that was full was AKV. Totally surprised that I could have gotten BCV or BWV(non-boardwalk view).
