What kinds of programs would make you a repeat shopper to a business?

IE...."frequent flyer" cards (like getting a stamp for every certain amount spent, fill a card and receive a reward), emailed coupons, mailed coupons, special products/events....etc.

can I add to this...aside from rewards type programs what else would you like to see a store do (anything at all minus giving it away for free lol) that would make you a repeat customer?

Other than things like "good customer service" or whatnot....

Personally, e-mails would turn me completely off. I've ordered online and get constant "special offer" emails from the companies. I don't even read them--they all go directly into my junk mail folder.

One of my favorites are the cards that get stamped for every purchase. When you've purchased a certain amount you get a decent discount on your next purchase. If I liked the store, that would make be a repeat customer.

I think it depends on the kind of merchandise you are selling.

I always like 50% (or more) off sales.

I like sales on certain items too. For instance, I love Yankee Candle Tart sales, $1.00 each, but their jar sales do nothing for me. I like their "spend $25.00 get $10.00 off" coupons that either comes in the mail or is online.

Are you selling food? Seasonal finds like Starbucks Peppermint Mochas or Eggnog Lattes keep me going back to see what they have new for the season, season after seaon.

Are you doing mail order? Free shipping always keeps me going back, even if I have to wait a few extra days for my items. One of the reasons I love Amazon.

I also love places like Zappos and Shoes because they tell you what percentage sale you are getting on an item ... for a bargain shopper that's a great thing.

Oh! And "midnight" or "Sunday" madness sales, when a store is open after or before normal business hours. Coupons are given out for %50 off ANY one item in the store, and only one item. Our local craft store does that a lot.

I hope some of that helped. :)

I love promotions where if I spend a certain amount, I earn a certain amount free. Gymbucks, for example are a great deal. I can't turn down those offers.

I like additional % off of sale prices and mailed coupons.

I like hallmarks store promotion. You get a point value for each purchase (you are requried to show a card but they can look you up too) and every 1/4 they send you a check/coupon good towards purchasing Hallmark products in the store based on how many points you have accumulated.

I also like that Lindts has adopted this kind of a policy where after so many purchases you get free product. I buy chocolates several times a year as gifts, easter, christmas and this makes me want to buy it all from 1 place instead of random purchasing.

So I guess I like it when a company appreciates repeat business by "giving" me something in return for continuing to shop there...a bonus if you will.

I sure liked the $5 coupon from Office Depot in yesterday's paper. Spend at least $5 and receive $5 off. I bought printer paper for $5.39. In fact DH and I went in and bought two reems and the cashier offerred us a second coupon to split the transactions so we bought two reems for less than $1. Can't beat that.

Just a note that the emails would be only to those people who physically signed up to be on the email mailing list. I hate unsolicited emails and would never send them out!

These are all wonderful ideas. Any more?

I like DSW's fequent buyer card. You earn points toward a $10 certificate. It sort of makes me look there first for shoes so I can add toward my point total.

Bring back Green Stamps and Plaid Stamps! We traded them for some great stuff (kitchen items, etc) in the 50s & 60s.

Oh, and of course I'm NOT old!

Seems like there are a lot of fans of the "repeat shopper rewards" type programs, whether it be in the form of stamps on a card or number of dollars spent or points like Hallmark.

Any others?

I've been working at Macy's seasonally and the extra discount days are pretty popular. At least one day a week they give an extra 15% or 20% off if you use your Macy's card. They have coupons for the same amount in the ads for major sales and while the CC discount matches the coupons, there aren't coupons for every CC discount offered.

People will walk in all the time and ask if there's an extra discount if they don't see signs. It really seems to work, getting people to spend spend spend. Works on me, LOL. . of course I calculate that 20% off in my head, then calculate another 25% off for my employee discount, LOL!

I use my Delta Sky Miles Amex for everything. I also participate in the dining rewards network, idine, as it was previously known. I register my credit card number and my frequent flyer number and if I dine out at idine restaurants, I get 10 miles per dollar spent on my delta sky miles account. It adds up very quickly and can account for a free ticket over the course of a year because there are additional bonuses available for extra dine outs.

I only shop at The Children's Place and Kohl's when I have a %off coupon. I also rarely pay for shipping when ordering online.

Bumping for the evening West Coast crowd!

if i'm a regular customer then i don't care for promotions or big 'give aways'-i would rather see that money rolled into giving me a better regular price on products. i'm also offended when stores offer big discounts or perks to new customers or takers of new lines of credit-it seems that longstanding customers should receive the same.

i don't like cards that i have to carry with me-so if i'm going to get any repeat customer perks i prefer if it's tied into some process during purchase and applies automaticaly (some of our markets have you put a code in at the counter-all the sales and promotions automaticly apply).

if it's an on-line purchase i usualy don't do it unless i can't get it localy or there's free s/h-otherwise it's not worth it for me (and i delete any email's i get from companies i've purchased from/actualy i block them).

Ladyyred, I've been meaning to tell you that your cat looks exactly like mine, they could be twins, I swear. His name is Cowboy and he makes those same pathetic "give me attention" meows too.

As for me, I like the card stamp thingies, I wish STarbucks had one...

I also have a Staples membership because I work out of my house and am responsible for my own office supplies. You get a certain amount of "reward" points per dollar purchse. Last month, Staples had a great fax/printer/copier on sale, the manufacturer had a substantial rebate, I had $32 in reward points and I also had five spent ink cartridges from my old ink guzzling HP. Staples give $3 towards purchase for every empty you bring them to recycle. SO, all in all, get this I only spent $22 for a brand new top of the line combo machine which I really needed.
