I am looking for feedback good or bad on the programs out there. I will give you a brief history on myself:

32 years old
220 LBS
one DD4

Previous programs include:

Atkins: lost 60 lbs, got pregnant, gained it all back plus more, find lo/no carb diets do not work now as I get dizzy and have fainted without carbs, have been told by the Dr that I show symptoms of Hypoglycemia, but have not been diagnosed with it

WW - lost 27 lbs, got sick with food poisoning (salmonella) that landed me in the hospital. Although I know the two have nothing in common, I cannot seem to want to redo WW as in my head the two events are connected (dumb, huh). I may have to get over this, as I realize WW does work.

Right now I am looking to start again.

What do you do?

I just started a low-fat, low calorie diet and I'm using Alli. I'd love to lose 20 pounds by Christmas and another 20 before my birthday in March. In reality, I need to lose about 100, but I'm not going to think about that. I'm going to make smaller goals, so I don't get overwhelmed. I'm also not going to "kill" myself trying to exercise until I lose a little bit of weight. I tend to get overwhelmed if I try to do too much all at once.

That is exactly my problem!! The big picture is "too big" sometimes!!:faint:

I think my overall goal will be 135 - so I have to lose 85 lbs - WOW!! That is a lot!! How do you take that first step??

Anyway, anyone else? I really like the small goals theory, that is for sure.

TIA!!

Amy

I really liked WW. I know that food poisoning can leave a bad taste in your mouth with any memory, but WW really teaches how to eat healthy. I think that is the most important part to losing and keeping off weight.

I know when something bad happens in association with something else that it is hard to look beyond it, but sometimes it is smart to try. The salmonella poisoning could have happened on any program, it wasn't WW food that you were eating, it was just the program you were following at the time.

I am a WW and have been for several years. I started on WW when I was 36 years old and over 220 pounds, 5 years later I am a life time member and have been maintaining my goal for almost a year and a half. I tried many programs, but found that WW was the only program that was worth following for life.

Good luck with your decision, I hope you find a program that fits your life and works for you.

WW's definately works. I used to do WW's.

I now do calories and track them at Sparkpeople. I really love it compared to WW's because it really opens your eyes and shows you what the REAL calories are "not just the points" of food are.

I've never done WW, I did a modified version of Atkins to get myself started and when I'm paying attention to me, I'm also using Sparkpeople to log what I eat. I try to make sure I've got a better balance of food and try for small portions and taking the allotment into 4-5 times of eating per day. I've slipped once more, but have got back on and am moving forward once again.

I hope you can find the one that you will be able to find easy to follow and with much success.

I like WW too, but I also like Sparkspeople - although I cannot seem to enter food. The buttons don't seem to work.

I like knowing more about nutrition, even if I track the points.

I know what you mean about pairing unpleasant events.

I am training for a race and do the long walks on Saturday.

I have had stomach flu twice in September (the first time really nasty because I could not keep anything, even medication, down for over a week). Both times started on a Saturday, after my walk.

Now I am a bit afraid of my long walk, but I have to train.

The mind does funny things doesn't it?

WW is the best plan for me, but I would like to figure out Sparkspeople too.

What kind of race are you training for?

I did Joints In Motion in 2006 (Honolulu, full marathon) and we always did the long walks on Saturdays too. I came to DREAD that day!! The whole time I was training, I did not lose any weight, isn't that weird! But neither did 2 others I was with. Anyway, I finished the marathon in 9 hours 30 minutes and 11 seconds (Oh - I am a walker, I should mention that).

Good luck with your race!!

To everyone else, yup, I think WW it is. I just have to DO IT!! Get off of my butt and DO IT!!!

Good luck to all!!

Amy - I do Joints in Motion too! I went to Disney in 2006, another local race the same year and am doing the half (or as much as I can) at Spacecoast the end of November.

I also did a 5 k in the spring for Team Diabetes.

I am a charity walker also - and that is what I love about Honolulu - they wait for everyone. You did great. Some took more than 12 hours to do the marathon and everything was waiting for them (medals, food, etc.) when they finished. Love it.

The Spacecoast has a seven hour limit for both the half and the full, but I am very:sad1: heavy, and missed a few weeks in September when I was so sick.

So we will see.

Next up is a 10k next Sunday.

Do you still train?

Linda (still fearing the long walk tomorrow...)
