do people not understand? Lat night at 12:30 a.m. there was a terrible 3 car accident up the end of my street. I was just about ready to fall asleep when WHAM! Jumped out of bed and called 911 without so much as a look out the window to see what's going on. I've lived in this house for 7 years and this is at least the 12th accident at my corner that I"ve called in.

The force of the accident tore most of the front of the hitter's car clean off. He hit a woman coming home from work who was in a good size pick up truck, spun her around and the truck ended up on the lawn in front of a store. The third car appeared to be undamaged and just swerved to avoid the accident. Thank goodness no one was seriously injured.

The police and the first people to get to the cars said the guy appeared to be drunk.

Having been hit by a drunk driver, I have zero tolerance for these morons. I feel so bad for the woman that got hit. She was just trying to get home from work.. minding her own business. It just makes me so angry!

My DH's brother was killed by a drunk driver at the age of 5. WE also have zero tolerance for the morons. I wish we had extremly strick laws about drinking and driving.

Last saturday morning, around 10:30 AM, I saw an officer giving someone a "walk the line" test on the highway. 10:30 in the MORNING! How scary.

I also have zero tolerance. In High School my friend's sister and her friend were killed when one was driving drunk. Two years ago a classmate of my daughter in preschool was killed by a drunk driver on the way home from the beach. I can't stand when drunk drivers get a slap on the hand when caught by police (whether in an accident or not). There should be a manditory jail sentence since it is like shooting a gun into the air when you get in a car drunk. There are many, many who do it again and again too!

Since you are from MA I will post this.

My DFiance's two very close childhood friends where in an alcohol related accident on Tuesday night after the Red Sox game. It was one care involved. The driver and passanger where the best of friends from the time they were like 4. The passanger was pronouced dead at the scene and the driver is in the hospital with a pychiatrist in his room with him and a state officer outside.

They were 30 years old. The driver was very successful, happy, family oriented man. He is not married and does not have any kids.

The passanger had started to get things in order the last few years. He had a great job with and was as happy as he had ever been. He was in a long term, committed relationship.

I am with you Virgo 10.... WHAT PART OF DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND????

These were smart men. Chances are they felt in control, the driver was probally just at or above the legal limit, however the chance they took when they and everyone else who drives in that "minor buzzed" state (not out right falling down drunk) he is going to pay the price for the rest of his life and his best friend paid the price with his life.

No tolerance here either. I was hit by a drunken driver while stopped at a red light when I was 6 months pregnant with DS now 15. I wrenched my back and worried about the baby for the remaining 3 months. Can you believe the police never even asked if I needed to go to the hopsital? I felt so badly for this older man who apparently messed himself when the police came. That was until we got called to court several months later and I found out if was his 16th arrest for DUI in several years! DH also works for the electric company as a lineman and the stories he has told me about having to wait to reset a pole while they find body parts makes me ill and scares me to death. All because they were drinking and driving!

I have a FIL that does it every day of his life. He doesn't leave for work without his cooler full. He is in the roofing business and more or less drives around all day looking for new bids. He then comes home has a few more and goes sound asleep for the rest of the night. What a loser!!!! I can't believe that he has yet to be caught. I pray that no one getts hurt due to this selfish, hateful man.

I guess they don't understand the "don't" part. My 18 year old cousin was killed by a drunk driver last month. It really burns me up.

I don't understand how a person can drive after drinking. Even one drink should be too much.

This really makes me MADD.

Its a very scary epidemic. Very heartbreaking. When I was in HS my closest friends BF and his best friend were killed, when your a teen, you feel the weight of the world on your shoulders, tradgedy really changes you, her life was never the same. I will say though, that one of the boys mothers did help to get MADD organized in Mass. after her sons death.

Its bad enough that we have a problem with adults doing it, but now we are seeing "our "children making really bad judgment calls and killing each other.

Roberta, we should compare notes some day. I was hit by one too, just out of the blue. Atleast I sued and got money. The guy also did some jail time.

I also hate Drunk Drivers - lost two good friends to one, and it still upsets me.

I work with someone who just received a DUI - I didn't know what to say...I was so mad...

I would love to turn him in. The problem is we are not colse. I don't know where he is at any given time. He drives all over Muncie IN. If I was ever to see him out...you bet I would call the police...and Not feel a bit sorry about it.

I completely agree with you all. I just don't understand what is so difficult about the concept of a designated driver. I am also shocked at how many adults who should know MUCH better drive after drinking too much. I honestly have observed that the adults I know are much worse than the teens were when I was in high school about drunk driving. It's like the kids heard the message often enough to get it for the most part, but adults think that they can control it. Really, it's a problem in every single age group, and it make me absolutely furious! People, get a designated driver if you want to drink, and if you can't find one, then don't drive yourself home!!!

They will never get the message until the ability to have a drunk driving offense fixed is eliminated. A friend of my brother's has had at least 5 DUIs. He has never done any jail time. His lawyer gets them fixed. Any judge that goes along with this should lose his job, along with the lawyer. JMHO.

PHOENIX, Arizona (AP) -- Country star Glen Campbell called it "a captive audience" -- and he wasn't kidding.

Campbell, nearing the end of his 10-day sentence for extreme drunken driving, gave a free 30-minute concert Friday night for about 1,000 inmates at Maricopa County's outdoor jail.

"Tent City, you're gentle on my mind," Campbell sang during his opening song, the million-selling "Gentle on My Mind."

The Phoenix-based singer-guitarist performed several of his Top-10 hits on a makeshift stage atop a flatbed truck with some hay bales as a countrified backdrop.

Campbell, 68, was arrested in November near his posh Phoenix home after causing a minor traffic accident.

He pleaded guilty in May to extreme DUI and leaving the scene of an accident, then began his jail term on July 1 with his final eight days set up as work-release.

Campbell was allowed to leave the jail, where he had a indoor private cell, during the day to handle business affairs, returning overnight.

"It's been an eye-opener, that's for sure," Campbell said of his time behind bars.

The country star also performed "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" in his eight-song set and led the rough-and-tumble audience in the chorus of "Rhinestone Cowboy."

He even offered a little encouragement to the inmates, saying: "Sometimes it's hard to take what you get."

Last year this month a corvette crashed into a tree on our Main Street killing all three teens instantly. When it slammed into the tree they guestimate the car was going 90. All 3 had been drinking.
