What other trips do you love to plan??

Can I ask you the best source for ginger tablets ? My parents are cruising to Alaska in august for their 50th, and I want to buy them some.

I bought generic Ginger and Papaya Enzyme at the drugstore in the vitamin area. I still had to use Bonine every day. I am prone to Cruise motion sickness (but no other motion bothers me!?) Bonine did not make me sleepy like Dramamine and the patch makes me crazy thirsty and my eyesight gets all blurry so I don't like to use that. I mostly bought the ginger for my son who gets mildly sick in the car, but he didn't end up using it. I also use Ginger tea (Traditional Medicinals - Ginger Aid) which really helps my tummy when I eat too much or something like mexican food.

Sounds like you know the islands well! So I think we have narrowed it down to Maui. I definately don't want to go during rainy season -- so I guess March is out (that is when the kids' spring break is). When is the best time to go?? I would love to take the kids, but I think DH just wants it to be him and I (we are taking them to DL in October, so hubby says that is "their" trip, but I love it just as much as they do!). We'll see . . . .
I, too, have heard fabulous things about the Hyatt Regency from my sister. I was just on expedia reading the reviews LOL I am hooked!
Any info about Maui would be fab -- shopping, restaurants, activities, any day trips or excursions . . . I think Dh is thinking more of a beach house right on the water type of thing -- but the resorts look so amazing!

We explored Kauai so I can only tell you about that island. We haven't been to Maui yet. I only did a lot of research on Maui for our upcoming trip in August. You should go on tripadvisor.com for Maui advice. There's quite a bit of information on restaurants, day trips, luaus there plus locals who frequent the discussion boards there. The locals and visitors also highly recommend the book "Maui Revealed".

Having experienced the rain in Kauai, I would never chance going to Hawaii again anytime from Dec-March. For us, to spend all that money on a dream vacation to Hawaii, we would only want to go during non-raining season. However, my in-laws have all experienced Maui in Jan/Feb and they had very nice weather...so maybe my luck is not that great...which is why we're going in August.

As for hotels, our room rate at the Hyatt Maui is only $249, so we chose that resort. It's on Kanaapali Beach, the hub for shopping, restaurants, etc. The Hyatt also has a luau onsite called the "Drums of the Pacific" luau. I would have preferred to stay in Wailea, which is supposed to have nicer beaches and is a lot quieter, but the resorts are wayyy too expensive for us. If your DH wants a beach house/condo rental, go to www.vrbo.com to rent directly from the owner. The Westin Maui resort, also on Kanaapali Beach is supposed to be great for kids, but so much more expensive ($400+). I heard that Kahana is a nice area to stay. A friend just came back from Maui and stayed in that area in a condo called Kahana Villas. She told me it was under $200. I also have friends tell me they like to stay in Kihei as their condo rentals are cheaper. Plus, they told me there's a Costco nearby so they buy groceries there.

I seem to get just as much fun out of the planning as the trip. I just got back from Ecuador and Peru in April and I'm already planning the following trips.

• Sydney, Australia for a long weekend in August
• Cambodia in October/November via Singapore for a few days
• Hawaii island cruise in March 2008
• Disney Magic Eastbound Repo in August 2008

I enjoy the process of looking for accommodation, car rental, flights etc.

We like to travel when we can. With two teenagers we can't do as much as we'd like. Their schedules keep ups running as it is. We are heading to Vegas on Monday. We like to go to Vegas once a year. It's our grown up getaway! It's good to take time to do things as a couple. We have become shuttle experts, catching them to and from different mega-hotels in Vegas. We stay downtown, but get around using the free hotel shuttles. Don't get me wrong, I still love DL and will still go probably even when kids are out of the house.

I do. WE have a trip to Oregon and Washington next month. I used to live up there but moved back before I married dh and had my girls. So I am taking them to all my fav places. Crater Lake, Mt. Hood, the waterfalls along I84 etc.

Then we are going to Disney in July and Oct and again next Feb and that includes San Diego and then next Nov we go back to Disneyworld and then I am planning a trip to D.C. in 09. I have been reading TONS of books and getting lots of info.

I get maps and info from AAA.com and other sites. I also make a daily itinerary for most trips as well.

It really keeps me busy and gets me excited for the trips.

I love to travel, but have the most fun planning Disney trips. I don't get freaky about planning other trips.

Just to compare, the last time I was on Maui, which was 5 years ago, our very nice three bedroom condo, third floor, right on the ocean (whale watching from the balcony)-kitchen, etc, was $600 a WEEK. Went with my folks and my sister; so we each only had to pay $200. Left a lot of extra pina colada money!

I've always been in Hawaii in December through February-4 trips now, never a rainy day. YMMV, of course.

Travel is my passion. I spent 60+ hours researching my last vacation to Belize and Guatemala. I have a travel binder that I fill with every possible thing that we may need on vacation including the locations of ATMs, pharmacies, doctors and hospitals, internet cafes, and the best public restrooms. The last 3 vacations, I have planned two down days where we can do things that we might not have originally planned.

If someone needs Hawaii advice, I have been to Maui, Kauai, Oahu and the Big Island. I still have everything from my travel binder in my vacation bin.

I do use specific travel sites for planning but have also used the DIS. I use the search feature to see which DISers have been to my vacation destination. I then pm them and ask their favorite and least favorite parts of the vacation. I have received great advice from people here.

Yes I would love any Hawaii info you have. I have been reading up and I think Maui is the island we would love to visit. I would love a nice room right on the ocean with a fabulous view from the lanai! This would be our 1st trip to Hawaii -- Dh wants it to be just him and I, but I kinda want to take our 3 girls (8, 4, and almost 2) because they would be in heaven!!!
I think it is fun that we can share all of our DL tips -- and share other tips for other destinations.
Anyways, if you don't mind maybe you can PM me with any great places to stay, etc!
