What Not To Buy...

I've been thinking about this for a couple days so I thought I would start a thread.

What are some things you always buy when you go to WDW, that you have vowed to either stop buying altogether, or at least cut back on?

I am 26 years old and have an addiction to stuffed animals. I have so many stuffed animals (Disney and otherwise) that I literally do not have room for any more. So this year when we head to Disney, it is my boyfriend's job to make sure that I don't buy any. :rolleyes1

Anyone else care to share?

NOVELTY HATS!!! I was just thinking about this yesterday, my kids love the fun hats at WDW, but we get them home and they just sit in the dress-up clothes box only to be worn for crazy hat days at school :confused3. Now the only hats I will buy them there are the baseball-style Disney ones or sun visors that they will actually wear.

I even keep debating whether or not to buy birthday ears on this trip for my DS's birthday.

That's another thing I can add to my own list! My boyfriend buys a pair of Mickey Ears on every trip...he now has 6 pairs and we are going again in October. All 6 pairs are sitting in a box (crushed under stuffed animals) waiting to be brought downstairs to be stored in the basement....

Trading pins. DD loves to trade pins. On our last 2 trip, we bought her tons of pins. Now she has around 60 of them, 1/2 of which are Tinks, which she collected last trip. She's taking all the non-Tinks to WDW this year to trade, but we told her we won't buy her anymore. If she wants them, she will have to buy them herself.

I have my 1 pin that I always wear at WDW and other places, and that is my Michey Red Sox pin. DH has 2 scuba character pins. We will try to find the other 2 scuba pins if they are available for purchase or trade to complete the set, and that is it.

While the trading is fun...it does get expensive.

I would like to try to convince dh not to buy any T's on this trip, as he probably has 75 T-shirts in his wardrobe, but I know he'll buy them anyway...he is addicted.

I don't generally buy anything for myself besides maybe 1 shirt, and a new Disney picture frame for a trip photo.

I am determined not to buy any Disney candy. Now i am an adult (will celebrate my 21st in the world this august) but am still drawn to the big pinwheel suckers, or rock candy, or giant pixie sticks plastered with different Disney character faces. I always plan to take them home and distribute or ration so that i can keep my memories alive through multiple sugar highs but that is so SILLY!! I usually eat them in the hotel, leave them half eaten in the park or throw them away the next time i open my suitcase three months (or later) after! Plus i am trying to loose some weight before the trip so no need to pack it back on with candy (i'd rather have a few COCKTAILS! :thumbsup2)

*cameras!!* i try to find everything i will possibly need BEFORE i leave so that i don't have to worry about paying for over-priced items!! another would be: i tend to buy the fancy drink that comes w/ the "free" cup!!:rotfl2:

I used to get candy or a snack from the WS every trip but then I come home and find a lot of the stuff in Germany at my local grocery store and have gradually found just about every candy somewhere around town. Not worth it imo.

We will not buy the tub of popcorn. It is a pain i.t.a. to carry around and when we get home it never gets used for anything ever again.

Every year I say that I am going to buy a zippered sweatshirt or a Disney watch with my alllotted souvenier money, and every year I end up spending it on keychains, stickers, stationary and other cheap items that I think are a bargain.

Overpriced light up toys. You know, the ones they sell at night that really have no use for anything after that night. Lets see, we have the Minnie with the light up spinning skirt, Light up glasses, light up Buzz Lightyear, light up Cinderella, and the worst of all that string thing with the black light that just always gets jammed. It does not work as well as the one the CM use to sell them. On our last trip I declared "no more" and have stuck to that.

Pens with fluffy bits on them! They always fall to pieces whenever I try to use them, and the feathers go everywhere. I should also avoid the mickey shaped pens, as I have several but can't use them as they're too heavy.

We cut down on buying extra stuff when my husband started commenting "That would be on a table in the next garage sale". Besides being the truth, its also kind of a buzz kill when your heart is set on the 47th plush animal for your kids collection...that they don't ever play with.

It is so hard not to buy stuffed animals! Donald is my weakness. On my last trip I brought along 3 mini Donalds that I had at home, thinking that if I had them around I'd be less inclined to spend my money on new ones. Alas they were joined by 4 more on the return trip.

I second the light up toys!!! This year I am bring his old ones with us. After our afternoon break at the hotel, I am putting them in our carrying bag...so when DS starts asking non-stop for buzz or mickey light up toy. I will whip out his old ones, same goes for glow necklaces and brackets!

Thats exactly my problem! But my weakness is Stitch...and Simba of course but you don't find too many of those.

Thanks for all the ideas! We are going in August and taking our 4 year old daughter for the 1st time. My parents are also going, so I'm afraid she will ask them to buy everything she sees.. LOL

I can't really say there is one thing or another that I should not or will not buy. I just want to "buy better" like the poster that said she really wants the watch - but ends up with keychains!

I want a Mickey watch! I've got a Tink and a Pooh watch. BUt I want a Mickey watch. But I'll most likely come home with a T-shirt! I'd also like one of the really nice fleece zip up hoodies. But I'll spend money on pins for the kids instead. But hey - thet LOVE the pin trading.

And to the poster that is not going to buyt the tub of popcorn...... That popcorn smells so darned good! It's hard not to give in! Good luck!

This year I bought about 8 boxes of glow bracelets/necklaces at the dollar store. There are 15 bracelets in a box for $1. We will wear 10-20 of them at night and have fun giving them away to other kids that dont have one. I have two teenagers going with me and they are looking forward to that. :dance3: Just trying to focus on giving too. I am also giving my kids their money for purchases on the first day, and that's it. Once it's gone it's gone. I just hope my days of hearing "I want....I want.....I want" are over.

These are ALL so good and SO true. It's been 9 years since our last trip and we have NONE of the items we bought! I PROMISED myself, THIS trip, I'm getting some Disney Art, that I KNOW I'll put on a wall somewhere and enjoy. I think we may get a few shirts but none of the "STUFF" my kids talked me into the last trip. But then, their not going this time! :lmao:
