What NON TRADITIONAL place would you like to visit on a vacation?

Galapagos Islands.....but someone I know just went there and the six hour boat ride to the islands was horrible. He said he thought that the boat was going to capsize. That makes me a little nervous.

it may not be a hot, happening vacation destination, but i'd like to go to scotland. i know a lot of people wouldn't choose it b/c of the weather, but i would LOVE to travel the country, visiting castles and such.

Me too! Scotland and England would be my dream vacation destinations.

I can't believe I forgot Austria! I'm such a Mozart devotee and that alone would keep me fascinated. I'd like to explore France more and explore all of Great Britain.

Just watched Samantha Brown "Passport to Europe" on the Travel Channel...2 episodes; Salzburg, Austria, and Prague, Czech Republic. Now I want to go to both. My DBF recently told me he wants to go to Austria, too

I've been fortunate to visit many of the places 'd hope to visit, but Scotland is still on the list - I don't think it's an unusual choice at all - loads of people visit there all the time! :)

I'd like to return to Portugal, especially the places I missed the first 2 times, but hope to get to new places first.

Other places high on my list:

Belgium
Luxembourg

Fun thread! :thumbsup2

I've always wanted to go there!! I think I read somewhere that Lan Airlines was going to start flying Santiago,Chile-Galapagos at the end of the year. There's also flight that leaves from Guayaquil. Those are good options for those of us who get seasick.

Oh, and Croatia.... only because a friend of mine went there, and he likes what I like, and he LOVED it there.

Also, maybe Chile, Paraguay, or Uraguay.

Norway is right at the top of my and DHs lists. We will get close with Denmark next month.

I'll agree with others about Scotland. DH loved it and wants to take me some day--also Ireland in the same region.

India--hoping DH ends up traveling there for business next year so I can tag along (but I doubt I can stand the heat for more than a couple of days)

I don't really know what is considered "non traditional" I keep thinking "should I list it?" There are about a gazillion places I want to go (and I have been to a fair amount already):rolleyes1 A few more:
Snowy River country in Australia
Prince Edward Island Canada
Cairo, Egypt
Peru
Japan

France is at the very top of my list. I know they hate Americans but I still want to go there. Also England, Australia, Greece and Italy. There's probably more but that's all I can think of right now.

I don't consider any of the destinations on this thread "non-traditional" - I bet you could go on line and book a guided tour to any of them in 15 minutes. I thought someone was going to pipe up with cities like Novosibirsk (3rd largest city in Russia - population 1.4 million) or Tainjin (4th largest city in China - population 9.8 million). Or maybe Mishawaka Indiana, or East St. Louis Illinois...I don't think those places have many tourists.

I still want to visit Bhutan, Nepal, Botswana, Antarctica, and Hokkaido Japan(for the Sapporo yuki matsuri).

I don't know what non-traditional means, but I've been to almost everywhere listed by others on this thread. I just returned from the Galapagos Islands a couple of weeks ago. We flew from Quito, Ecuador to the Galapagos Islands (about 2 1/2 hours in the air with one stop) - Tame Airlines. After that, we visited 4 of the islands by ship.

I agree with you. I didn't post at first because I figured everywhere I wanted to go was pretty run of the mill. Then I saw what people were posting and figured I might as well post if that is what we are going for:upsidedow I made a trip to Red Cloud Nebraska once in college after taking a course on Willa Cather becuase I wanted to see where she lived. I think that might truly count as a non traditional vacation spot.

I think that most of these places are pretty traditional too.

The only place that I can think of that MIGHT not be considered traditional that I'd like to visit is Mallorca. And maybe Finland.

I went to Japan last year with my Dad. I thought Japan was an amazing place. I would highly recommend visiting there. We also stopped by DisneySea while we were there, it is now probably my most favorite Disney theme park.

:) I thought the same thing. Also, the French are some of the nicest people to American tourists I have seen. :confused3
