We were told (during one of our trivia sessions on our recent cruise) that Splash was filmed there. And it was coincidence that it was the same island that Disney would later take a lease on to build Castaway Cay.
The Internet movie database (IMDB) does not list any filmings for Gorda Cay, and shows that Splash was filmed on New Providence/Nassau. Of course, the filming locations listing could be incomplete. If you search for Castaway Cay, it shows one program about the cruise line and then something called Seekers of the Lost Worlds, which is currently in postproduction.

Its in the Trivia section. Not sure how true it is since there is no real quote from anyone saying this is where... Its entirely possible. Theres a couple of CC history pages that detail the history of the island, but none that I know of that says there was a movie made there or in part.
"The beach where Alan first encounters the nude Madison is on the former Gorda Cay in the Bahamas, which now is known as Castaway Cay, the private island of Disney Cruise Line."
I'm not sure how much vetting goes into those IMDB trivia bits. There are many that are flat-out wrong, or at best, merely guesses on the part of the submitter.
