What makes your eyes burn so bad you can hardly keep them open?

I have never had this! I have allergies that make my eyes run sometimes but for the last few days my left eye is burning and running and hurting so badly that I just about can't keep the darned thing open. It hurts not to mention it is annoying as all get out!

Our weather has been weird so maybe it's allergies. I also had an eye test last Monday and thought maybe the bright lights could have burned my eyes a little. I have no idea!! It's driving me crazy though!

Oh and to my knowledge I haven't gotten anything in it that would cause this. I've done nothing different than normal over the past few days.

Thank's Kathy......yep I think it probably is something in the air especially with this nasty weather which is hot one minute and cold the next. It's so annoying!!!

Since you mentioned you have allergies, it's possible you rubbed your eye too hard in your sleep and scratched your cornea. It's happened to me three times in the past year and it HURTS. Definitely go get it checked by an eye doctor, I didn't take it seriously enough the first time and the doctor was not too happy with me.

I had Iritis once and it was PURE....HELL. My Iris was totally inflammed and it hurt to even open my eye. I had to be in complete darkness b/c the light hurt my eye so badly.

Is your eye sensitive to light? I know that was a defining symptom for Iritis for me.

Get it checked by an Opthamologist if it doesn't get better real quick. My 15yo DD had those symptoms and it was an ulcer on her eye. It is more common in people that wear contacts but I'd think anyone can get one. It would be best to check it out and make sure it isn't serious.

YES my eyes are very sensitive to the light!!!! I just had an eye appointment last Monday. He blew that puff of air into both eyes to check for Glacouma and then he looked at the blood vessels and muscles with a really bright light. You would think he would have saw if anything was wrong.

However, on a good note, he did order my glasses which I should pick up either Monday or Tuesday so I will be going back and if it isn't much better I'll have him check it because something obviously isn't right.
