Applying for a computer aide job with no job description. What types of technology do elementary school students (k-5) receive instruction in?

Any input MOST appreciated!!!

Thanks!!

Google the state standards for the state the job is in. They probably have technology standards (benchmarks/performance indicators/learning expectations) that you would need to address in a technology position.

If not, then probably basic computer skills, Word, Power Point, maybe Excel, how to use the internet for research (including determining the reliability of the source), internet safety, and typing skills.

Also some schools use technology for test prep programs (such as Study Island) and learning games.

My kids have learned Word, Excel and Power Point. Plus how to use the internet. But their 3rd grade teacher was big into technology, so she really went above and beyond what the other teachers do. They have a class website and have learned how to download pictures from a camera onto it, import their power point and word processing reports onto it and various other things.

I know our 5th graders are required to take typing.

At our school, we have a computer lab where the kids go in and work on specific programs to increase academics. They don't learn any computer skills beyond how to log on and off, which most of them can do anyway.

yes all of the above plus my DS's class, 3rd grade, also learned how to hook the laptop up to a projector to show what they made on the wall and also set it to use the large touchscreen to display their work and using the screen to move the mouse. I'm sure they learned lots more. His teacher has already stated that he can e-mail his spelling homework in and a lot of their homework is navigating websites and using them to learn what he learns in school.

Yes to pretty much everything everyone else has said. My tow are in 3rd and 4th grade, and I am impressed with the technology they already use! They have also used Power Point, Photostory, and Comic Life. All classrooms have smart boards, too, so it might be good to be familiar with them. GL!

This year, every classroom in our school has installed an Active board....or is it smart board? My children use the term active board and smart board interchangably so I'm not sure if there is a difference. They are obviously more technologically comfortable than I am. :rotfl:
