What kind of wildlife do you have around your home?

My wife was taking out the dog last night and had the scheiß scared out of her when a black bear casually walked up our driveway towards our barn. It passed about 2 feet from her. The dog briefly growled and the bear ran off.

So what kind of interesting wildlife do you have where you live?

I live in Massachusetts and in addition to bears we have moose (along with all of the other normal critters like squirrels).

Just the typical city dwellers - squirrels and racoons. I have a pool so lots of frogs come around and I once found a rather large turtle makeing his way through. On the cooler side, there are some bats that swoop around and also I once saw this huge owl on the diving board. I looked out the window and he flew up to perch on my shed. He was really cool. I will very rarely hear some owl hooting outside.

There is nothing too interesting right around my house…….. squirrels, chipmunks, raccoons, skunks, rabbits, the odd fox on occasion.

Just down the road from my home in the forest, you might see deer and coyote.

We have a lizard family in our backyard planters. This leads to kitties hanging out on our back wall looking for a snack. Hummingbirds, sparrow and the occasional dove all frequent our backyard.

Since we live up near the mountains and have open desert we see rabbits, chipmunks, roadrunners and coyotes. There are bobcats but I’ve never personally seen one. Unlike when I was a kid where we pretty much spent all our time there, I stay out of open desert because snakes and scorpions.

The more common ones I can think of are squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, skunks, foxes, opossums, raccoons, groundhogs and deer. The less common ones include coyotes and bears. I have seen all of them myself, except bears. The bears kind of wander in from time to time, and one was sighted in town about a mile from here a year or two ago.

We have the usual, but we have 3 bald eagles, wild turkeys, fox and deer. The reason it’s a bit strange is there are 30,000 residents in our 3 square mile town, so pretty populated with parks but no open land besides a park system that runs tight through town, recently saw a deer walking up our sidewalk. Years ago a city bus swerved to miss a deer and ended up crashing into a building.

Black bears come through but I haven't personally seen one. We have coyotes, foxes, fisher cats, lynx, mink, deer, bald eagles, and your standard squirrels, rabbits and chipmunks.

Nothing big. As others have said above, squirrels, rabbits, skunks, coyote, fox, opossum, racoons, chipmunks, ducks and geese now and a plethora of other birds. And then several wandering cats. :rolleyes2

Racoons, mice, skunks, wild turkeys, coyotes, squirrels, ducks, rattle snakes, deer, mountain lions, possums to name a few.
And you can always tell the people new to the area on NextDoor and the community Facebook Chit Chat page because they ask who to call to have them removed. Nobody........ in most cases....... because they are protected and have lived here for hundreds of years before people started make the area their home too.

White tailed deer, coyotes, bald eagles, squirrels, raccoons, opossums.

And at our camping property we have all those plus black bear and porcupines.

Deer, coyotes, possums, raccoons, skunks, woodchucks, squirrels, chipmunks, wild turkeys,
mice, lots of birds, tree frogs

We have the usual-squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, raccoons, possums, and then we have deer all the time. We've had a bear once, and there was a report of a coyote and a mountain lion around, but thankfully I've never seen those. Western Maryland here

Squirrel, rabbits, fox, coyote, snakes, raccoons, oppossum,

And lots and lots of deer. This is a bad time of year for them to be running across the road. So many accidents because of them. DS16 is a new driver. I have told him several times if one crosses the road in front of you WAIT! 90% of the time at least one more will follow.

common IN my yard-

chipmunks, squirrels, bunnies, coyotes, wild turkey
ducks, geese, owls, mutantly large crows, bald eagles
deer, moose

down the way but within view-herds of elk.

oh-and occasionaly my neighbor's free range chickens :headache:

Skunks. Groundhogs, wild turkeys, lots of Canadian geese, opossums. Nothing too out of the ordinary. Our neighborhood is also home to a very large feral cat population.

Besides the normal stuff that other posters have mentioned, we have black bears, cougars, bobcats, deer and lots of elk.

If you want to extend it just a tad, orcas, salmon, whales, crabs, clams, oysters, mussels, otters and everything else under the sea beside Ariel.

In Boston, mainly skunks, rats, raccoons, turkeys, and coyotes.

No bears here. We are in the suburbs on a side street but off a main road. We do have deer, chipmunks, squirrels, a fox and the occasional cat, which our dog loves to chase.

We live next to a forest with a creek running through it, so we have…
Deer
Raccoon
opossum
Groundhog
Beaver
Coyote
Squirrel
Rabbit
Chipmunks
Lots of different birds - my favorite being Cardinals and Blue Herrons
