What kind of view did we just have at BWV?

My DH and I just got back from BWV yesterday. We had a wonderful time on our first visit without our kids. Our studio was on the 5th floor overlooking the courtyard and looking at the Boardwalk Inn. We could see some of the boardwalk from our room. I know our studio was preferred but was it considered a Boardwalk view? We weren't overlooking any type of pool so we weren't a pool view but we weren't really on the actual boardwalk either. I was just curious. Thanks!

The courtyard area was considered BW view last summer when we stayed there.

Yep, that's a BW view...we had a similar room on our first DVC stay.

Just like at the beach where there is "ocean view" and "oceanfront" the word "view" only implies that you can see the boardwalk...not that you're actually on it. At the BWV though, they don't have a "actually on the BW" category

Our room number was 5065, and we were closest room on our side to the elevator. I have to say that was a huge plus. When we went in May, we were on the actual boardwalk and had a long walk to the elevators. I like the view better when we were actually on the boardwalk but the view we just had was nice as well. I think we pretty much had to stand up on the balcony and look left to get a good view of the boardwalk but the view of the courtyard and inn straight ahead was beautiful. I was definitely pleased with the room (gotta love that quick walk to the elevators!).

My experience is that BW tends to be a little "loose" with their room definitions! Our last "preferred" view room overlooked the roof of the maintenance building.

And the majority of our preferred view in August, was the valet parking lot and service area driveway. I'd agree...it's a pretty loose definition.

The more I think about it, your room must be in the "garden" view portion of the "Preferred: Garden/Water" category. I was looking at BWV pictures, and saw a section way at the end. I figured that's where it must have been. I agree, though, it's not much of a "preferred" view - I myself probably would feel the same way as you in your situation.

Yep....sounds like you got it. If you look at the BW map: http://www.mcdanieldesk.com/dvc/bwvmap.jpg , we were in that yellow section at the very bottom of the map, facing the parking lot. There is a service driveway there also that is not indicated on the map. There is a pretty wide scope in what BW considers "preferred". I will be very specific with my request should we ever stay here again.

If you have "BW preferred" viewing vs the "garden/pool preferred" viewing, you will be fine. This is a pretty recent booking guarentee with MS and should ensure you get an actual BW view. My view had no such guarentee----I booked my room back in June under preferred (vs standard). So I wouldn't fret at all about your reservations----sounds like you have no chance of getting anything like the preferred room I had.
