What kind of sugar-free desserts have you had?

I keep going back and forth on restricted carb diets...I was wondering, when at WDW, what kind of sugar-free desserts are available, esp. for table service restaurants? I've gotten the sugar-free brownie at Chef Mickey's (it was okay, a bit dry) and a sugar-free cake(? can't quite remember, now I'm thinking it was also a brownie!) at Cosmic Ray's. When I look at the menus, the desserts listed sound fabulous and I wish there was a way to occasionally get a terrific dessert that's also sugar-free! Would calling ahead make a difference in how "special" the sugar-free dessert could be?

DS8 got a "no sugar added" strawberry parfait at Backlot Express. It was basically vanilla pudding with strawberry pie filling. He liked it though .

At table service restaurants, request a sugar free dessert when you book the reservation and then ask for the restaurant phone number. Call them about 48 hours in advance and ask to speak to the chef about

Usually when you do this they will have time to make you something, especially if it is something that needs time. If you wait to you get there they will be more restricted on what they can give you

What ever you DO NOT get the sugar free muffin at the bakery on main street in mk. It was horrible. I try to follow a low carb, but usually skip the bread and fries and share a dessert. I had a flourless chocolate cake in Epcot (I think) that was very good.

I think there's still a no-sugar-added chocolate mousse in Norway in Epcot and it was DELISH!

I have only found one place that was able to provide me with an acceptible sugar-free dessert. That was concierge and Boma at AKL. I can only have Splenda and none of the other sweeteners as they all affect me adversely. AKL did choclate dipped strawberries, a pudding and a couple other things I have forgotten.
Everywhere else they seem unwilling to go the extra mile and I end up without dessert or foregoing other carbs so I can eat a portion of regular dessert.

Click on a place & then you will see a pictral review that is were she talks about SF Desserts-plus she has lots of pics of food-caution don't look when hungry I know she has one for Artist Point.

Thanks for your help...hmm, the ones I looked at weren't quite as impressive as I'd hoped (we're not going to Artist Point!). Maybe I will just try to limit other carbs and eat 1/2 a regular dessert!

They have a wonderful sugar free cheesecake at the Fountainview bakery in Futureworld at Epcot.

we travelled w/a diabetic, and while i did not get to sample any of the desserts, i did get to watch him eat them...
at chef mickeys he had a sugar free cheesecake that looked good and got a thumbs up!
at hollywood & vine there was a no-sugar-added cobbler on the dessert bar, which was excellent (this one i enjoyed too!)
at lecellier he had a choice of a few items and he opted for a citrus mousse that looked divine... the presentation was beautiful and he said it tasted as good as it looked!
i don't recall what he ordered in liberty tree tavern or anywhere else we ate, sorry...
but we found that he was accommodated at every sit-down w/no call ahead necessary... and more than once he had a choice of sf desserts

Hubby also had the citrus mousse at Le Cellier, and it was outstanding.

He also remembers being given a sugar free brownie sundae at Hollywood & Vine, made with sugar free ice cream and (he thinks, isn't sure about this part) sugar free chocolate syrup.

Teppanyaki offered fresh fruit for dessert, which turned out to be a serving of very good fresh pineapple.

I just got back and when I made my ADR's I had it noted I was diabetic and my main concern was deserts. As stated above call the Place you are going to eat at not 48 hrs but 72 hrs before and they will provide you with some choices. I had no problems at all. At Kona's I wanted the Tonga toast but I could not have all that surgar and they made it without the surgar coating. Provided surgar free Syrnp. At POFQ they coated by Bigetts with spenda instead of powdered surgar. At 50's prime time I had a Plain cheesecake YUM!!!!!!!! Everyone was very helpful.

My DH and I have been doing SB since Aug. While at WDW in Dec. we just split a regular dessert. I still lost 2 lbs. while on vacation. I just ate what I wanted but surprised myself. The choices I made were on program. (Well, I did eat the ear off of a Mickey Bar)

The SF desserts can be loaded with carbs. So be careful. I think that sometimes adding more carbs back in my diet helps jump start my metabolism and then I start losing again.

I agree with the previous poster's warning that a sugar-free dessert often has as many carbs as the regular version. Obviously some things will cut way back on sugar (like sugar-free pancake syrup, sugarfree drinks, etc.). But I've found that baked goods often have almost as many carbs as the ones made with sugar. My 4 yr old is a type 1 diabetic and takes insulin based on how many carbs he eats so we are very aware of carb counts.

There is also a sugar-free strawberry bar in some of the ice cream carts in the Magic Kingdom. William didn't like it but I thought it was good. Pay close attention to malitol and sorbitol as sweetners - they often can give you VERY bad diarreha. Some of the sugar-free brownies we had at WDW were sweetened with this!
