I am unsure of what to buy for my two girls for WD. Would they be better off with sneakers for August or some kind of good walking sandal. Can you recommend something?

I would get them some crocs.

I can't imagine wearing sneakers and socks in Florida during august. Between the heat and the rain, my foot would be one huge blister.

My DD8 wore her Old Navy flip flops for most of our 9 day trip. She wore her crocs once or twice. She never complained that her feet hurt.

Our kids wear a good supportive pair of sneakers with moisture wicking socks. They have never complained about their feet being too hot.

They do wear Crocs a day or two but, no more then that.

thanks i think the sneakers are probably the best way to go. I honestly dont think the crocs would be good for my kids (my one girl is always tripping). I will try to find the socks you suggested.

Socks and tennis shoes are the pits in the heat and wet. Rain, splash mtn, kali river and all the fountains that will feel so good in August do not mix with socks and shoes AT ALL! Try some good water sandals if you think crocs won't work. Crocs are our shoe of choice for WDW for sure, but not for everyone. Teva dozers and Keen newports are both really cute and on sale at campmor.com (a great website). Good luck and have a great trip.

Keens! I always see the girls version on sale but we have a boy and usually end up paying full price.

They are great because of the water rides and rain. They also are better in case of the dreaded crowd foot stomp.

Tennis shoes and socks seem to be the most comfortable and better support for their little legs. I had made my oldest child wear shoes and socks on previous trips but when she got older and asked if I would allow her to wear her flipflops, I agreed if she would at least take the tennis shoes. 1/2 way through the first day she was asking to go back to the room for the tennis shoes! We do carry water shoes/crocs/flipflops for when the rain comes but that is such a short time we change back as soon as things start drying out and before our legs/feet get tired.

My husband and I stumbled across Sanuks. We like the "sidewalk surfer" style. My husband likes these shoes so much he bought a 2nd pair within weeks of buying the first pair, then had me order some online for DS6. They are soooo comfortable. They look like a canvas shoe, but have a rubber bottom like a sandal. We haven't gotten ours wet yet, but the girl at the store said she wears hers in the lake and then throws them in the washer. I like them, because DS6 can wear socks with them to keep his feet dry in the park, but can also wear them without socks for water rides/ rain. My son likes them so much, he turned down going swimming because he was going to have to take his new shoes off!

I would definitely recommend socks and shoes, after our experience this past March. Our children (9yo daughter and 7yo son) were playing in the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground (I think that's the name of it) at DHS, and they were both wearing their Crocs (which they wear all the time). My daughter went down the slide, and one of her Crocs caught on the slide, causing her to twist her knee badly as her body went down the slide while her foot didn't, requiring a wheelchair, trip to urgent care, etc.:sad1: Thankfully she didn't end up breaking anything, and it didn't bring our Disney trip to an abrupt halt like we thought it would, but we insisted they wear proper runners after that incident. We also found that they were tripping over them a lot at our resort, not sure why.:confused3 I still love their Crocs, but from a safety point of view, they didn't seem to work for us.
