We stayed at The Riverside many years ago and it needed renovations. We are however going to spend a few nights there on an unplanned trip because the rate is so good. Most recently we stayed at The Beach Club which is hard to beat. Can anyone tell us how the rooms are? are they in good shape or have they been renovated in the last couple of years?

I will be interested to hear the responses. Our family of 8 adults and 5 kids will be there over Thanksgiving. What I have read so far indicates if you don't need a room for 5 people, request the Mansion side, and that any "view", such as water view or pool view rooms are extra.

We stayed in the Mansion section in May of 2005 and the room was great. The TV armoire and refrigerator cabinet were both new. There was new carpet in the room and the carpet in front of the sinks was replaced with tile. The room and grounds looked great. I hope this helps.

I stayed at POR last September -bldg 18 AB. The rooms were in great conditon in my opinion. here are a few pics:

All rooms have been refurbished...I believe the last of it was completed early this year. From what I have heard/read, the newly refurbished rooms look great.

Regarding Mansion vs Bayou...At this point in time, it is merely a matter of your preference of decor/landscaping.

We stayed in building 34 this July. I was showing a friend our pictures this weekend and she commented how different our room looked from hers. She had stayed their in January of this year. She said the armoire, bed curtains (?), and a few other things were different. We loved our room, especially the trundle bed, and are staying there next July!

I believe POR got all new "soft goods" (bedspreads, curtains, etc.), as well as new armoires, night stands, and new tiling in the dressing areas within the past year. Whereas in the past I would have only considered the Mansion rooms, the AB rooms look nice now, also. (BTW - the pictures posted above are of the old rooms. There's another thread posted within the last day or so that asks for new pictures, and has some posted.)

We stayed in AB 37 a few weeks ago, our room looked nothing like the room pictured above. Ours was much nicer- granite and nice tile work in the sink area, pewter faucets,a curtain you could draw across for privacy in the sink area, nice mini frig and mosquito netting above the headboard which was cute, also the quilt and drape colors were a muted red, white & blue. We really liked it and we usually stay at BC, AKL or YC. I think for the difference in cost you can't beat it.

I will be staying at Port orleans Riverside next month. Is there a section I should request?

We were at POR this March 2005 for Spring Break and our room was remodeled, very nice. At first, when I read the title of this thread, I thought you were asking what the shape of the room was as in rectangle....oops silly me :flower:
One of the other posters mentioned "water view" rooms. As far as I can tell, especially in the AB rooms, this is probably not worth the price difference as your view of water may be a quiet pool or a little pond. Just and FYI. It is a wonderfully beautiful resort with or without a waterview.

I stayed at POR (building 24) a couple weeks ago and the room was fantastic! Especially like the new tile near the sinks....And even though the resort was full I saw nobody at my building the whole time I was there....

I was there in June 2005. The room in Magnolia Bend had been refurbished. Very nice. The beds were very comfy.

Stayed at AB this March and the rooms were great. They did such a great job of blending in the refridgerator cabinet that I forgot at first that it was in the room! I'll be staying there a couple of nights in October before checking into my DVC resort.

thank you for all your comments... and the pictures. Certainly glad they updated the rooms.

HEHE! everytime I see a thread about where I am going to be staying I get all excited! Especially when it is a good thread.. :rotfl:

Sounds like you were in the Alligator Bayou section and she was probably in the Mansions section. The furnishings are very different but the room size is the same and its all part of Riverside.

To the OP, we stayed in POR in April and it was wonderful! Beautiful rooms, just an overall fabulous experience. Almost makes me wonder if we did the right thing buying into DVC. I am sure you will be pleased with your stay!

My friend did stay in the AB section. Maybe her memory was wrong, but she said the armoire was different and they did not have the refrigerators then. A few months later she did spend one night in Magnolia Bend. That room was updated and had the refrigerator.

We stayed at Riverside last summer. I thought the rooms and property were great! The room we stayed in almost had a rustic type feel. Log type furnature, absolutely beautiful. The bathroom had two sinks a shelf over the sink a table, etc. I would definately recommend it!
