I see planning type questions quite frequently and this subject has come up in my own family when we plan vacations/trips. I was wondering, so what type of planner are you?

I am a logistics type planner. I will plan where we are staying, checking out recommended places here and on Trip Advisor. I will plan how we are getting from the airport to the hotel. I will, especially if I am doing something special, get an ADR for a character meal. I do have an idea of what/where to eat other meals. I have decided what park tickets to purchase when I decide how many days we are going. That is about it as far as my planning is concerned.

I do not plan what rides to ride first, if we are doing rope drop or not, and I don't have a particular outline plan. If we want to see the parade, then I figure it out at that time. I do have a list of must dos from my DD. She seems more obsessed about that part - not me. I definitely don't schedule potty breaks - we just go when we need to go :rotfl2:

For example, we were at Disneyland in January 2014 for the Tinkerbell 1/2 Marathon. I had the hotel, air travel, shuttle and 1 character meal for the last day, which was a non-park day and travel day. I had an idea that we had to go to the Expo first to pick up my bib numer and our park tickets. I also had an idea that we had to leave the park no later than 3:00pm the Saturday before the race, and where we were eating. Other than that, I was free and easy. My DD had a list of things and we got to everything but 2attractions (Aladdin and Storybook Canal). We had a great time!

We are going again as a surprise for my DD. I have done a little more planning because I am trying to figure out the Halloween Party. I think that I am not going to focus on the rides as much as focusing on the extra attractions (trick or treating, fireworks, etc.) but, still don't have a spreadsheet of when to do what.

I plan the logistics and I plan out rides before lunch. After lunch, we wing it based on pulled fast passes, crowds, heat, dinner or other entertainment plans.

I plan the basics such as hotel, transport from airport, and things that require booking in advance, like tours, MHP and blue bayou. I generally have an idea of which park I plan to start off in, and major rides I want to be sure I catch. Other than that, I'm really looking forward to going wherever my whims lead me. This trip is easy planning because I'm going solo. If I were going with people it might require more planning to coordinate everyone's must dos..... I would do much more in-depth planning for travel to a foreign country.
