Odd question I know. We are getting our new mattress on Saturday, and I want to get new pillows too. We have pillows that are old and flat and yucky, don't think I've ever bought a pillow that doesn't cost more than $5 at Target. We are looking at down or feather pillows and I am wondering if you guys sleep on down pillows and how you like them??

Thanks!!

Erika

i just bought new pillows too! ours were also of the $5 target variety. :p

if you get a down pillow, get a good down pillow. i had a cheap one that kept sticking me with feathers. the new one i bought (on sale from JCP) doesn't have that problem.

i sleep with one non-down pillow that is pretty firm and the down pillow on top. i find just down doesn't give me the support i like.

IMO, don't bother with down pillows. I used to have them, and I spent TONS of money on them and they aren't worth it. I used to buy $150 - $200 pillows (each I may add) and they never lasted more than 2 years without flattening out completely. Even though they had high thread count covers on them, as well as pillowcovers, they always shedded feathers. I've given up on them and now buy VERY fluffy foam pillows. They now make VERY soft, just as soft and fluffy as down, and they usually are very inexpensive. I once saw a report on Today that said that pillows usually only have a life of 2 years or so and should be replaced that often. It stated that most people keep their pillows WAY TOO LONG, which is why most people have aching necks and backs in the morning. There is an easy test to see if you need a new pillow. Fold it in half, if it springs back into shape quickly, your pillow isn't worn out, if it doesn't spring back, or takes a while to regain shape, it's worn out and it's time for a new one.

I like the $5 pillows. We replace them extremely frequently (at least once a year, probably more), but I figure it's still cheaper than the alternative. We like the kind that doesn't try to feel like any kind of feathers or down, so it makes it easy to get a cheap pillow that feels good. DH and I are both allergic to down, so that's out of the question.

I bought some down pillows from QVC that even after about 5 years are still in great shape they have Ralph Lauren and logo on the tag but I didn't spend much I think they where $25.00 each.

We have these yucky flat shapless ones that we both hate but never have good luck when we buy new pillows. Maybe I will look into getting some new ones this weekend.

I use a cool pillow that I got from the chiropractor. It is a water pillow. You put water into a special section in the back of the pillow to whatever firmness you want. The top part is nice and cushy soft, (don't know what is in there). I like it.

We just bought pillows at Brookstone. They cost a little more (OK a whole lot more) but we were desperate for comfort!

Jeff got one that is molded and I got one that isn't but is made out of the same material that forms to your head as you sleep.

They have been great!

I just recently heard from sil (who just bought a bed and was buying new pillows for it) that it is recommended that you replace your pillows every year because your pillow builds up dust from old skin or something like that Kind of like the dust around your house from old dry skin. It's kind of gross now that I think about it. I haven't replaced my pillows in a few years. I think I will though. I'm not sure how true this is so I decided to do some research on the net. I found a few sites to be interesting. Here's one that you might want to read about dust mites and pillows...ewwwww

PILLOWS: Never use feather pillows, duvets or eiderdowns, but rather synthetic foam or polyester/acrylic filled bedding. Even foam pillows should be replaced every 6 months as mites may infest them. Both the pillow and mattress should be placed in the sunlight for 5 hours every week so as to kill the mites.

as far as replacing your pillows every year...still haven't found the answer...just mostly talk about dust mites and dead skin...but I think I get the hint...time to replace pillows... :scared:

I'm on a quest for the perfect pillow, have been for years. I'm always buying new pillows. My husband thinks I'm nuts.

I have a regular pillow (cotton, I guess:confused: ), 1 body pillow (which my puppy has decided is his:rolleyes::p ), and a down pillow. My down pillow is my favorite.

Was always a $5 pillow kid until I got a Brookstone pillow for my birthday this year..... now I'll never go back! The trick is in getting the dog to think that the $5 pillows are his, not the Brookstone ones!

I like Down as I like to scrunch a pillow into the shape I want. Can't do that with foam.
I also throw them inot the dtyer on air dry and they come out like new.

I can't remember the name of our pillows but I just bought them at Walmart for about $14 ea. They have a quilted covering and came with a 3 year warrenty. Not sure how that would work but it says if you are satisfied at any time with the pillow you can exchange it:scratchin We like the King size pillows the best. I like to snuggle with my pillow. Ds likes the big pillow becuase our dog likes to share it with him. (He tried to give her her own pillow but she prefers to share his:o )
Good luck on your pillow hunt. I HATE buying new pillows!!!

I bought the Martha Stewart Grandpa and Grandma pillows. And I think that I like Grandpa best. The only bad thing about it is that all of our K-Marts have closed, so I'm waiting to see how long I can wait before I break down and buy one online.

But I love this pillow and I just hope that I can still get one when and if I need one since Martha got herself into a bit of a mess!:p

We finally broke down last year and bought nice, foam, more expensive pillows. I can't remember the name of them but we got them at Filenes What a difference from the $5 ones we had had all those years.

My husband and I both have the Tempurpedic pillows that you can get at Brookstone. I love this pillow and never want to be without it again. Yes, they're pricey, but they don't wear out like the other pillows.
