What kind of luck have you had trying to walk up to Tusker House for breakfast?

I have a party of 8 :scared1:

We're traveling with my cousin's boys, who are 9 and 13 and who I was sure would have no interest in characters when I was making our ADRs a million years ago. Then last week my cousin tells me the thing they're looking forward to most on the trip (it's their first) is meeting characters. Yikes - now I need to scramble.

Now of course I am having zero luck with any kind of character meal (with the exception of H&V, which of course is even less appropriate than a princess meal for tween/teen boys).

I really want to take them to Tusker House. I am having ZERO luck (as you'd expect) finding a reservation - and I promise, I'm checking multiple times every day.

I'm wondering what our chances would be if I am unable to find anything between now and mid-December (which is when we're going), to try walking up on our AK day (12/15). Has anyone done this -- especially with a large group? Do we have even the tiniest sliver of a chance?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice . . .

You can try to get an ADR when you arrive. Also, they might like the Poly breakfast with Lilo and Stitch. They will need to get into with Stitch and then Stitch will have fun back with them. (Imitate Elvis, tell a joke). And I know the main event is Cinderella and the Prince but try 1900 Park Fare for dinner-the stepsisters are supposed to be hysterical esp with the boys.

Please don't try to walk up to Tusker House for breakfast. If you are unable to be seated you will not only have two disappointed hungry boys on your hands, but practically no other options for breakfast in the park. Here are some character meals to try for:

1900 Park Fare B/D
Crystal Palace B/L/D, I think people forget Lunch is an option
Cape May B only is character
'Ohana B, that is the Lilo and Stitch me
Garden something, D meal at the Land, same place as Soarin'

You can even try for something while you are at WDW. I'm not sure if you've been calling or using the online system, but in your case you may feel better and have better luck letting a CM do the search for you over the phone. There search options may be easier to maneuver.

Good luck and don't stress, something will open up for you.

Our last 2 visits to Tusker House have been a zoo. Not only were they not accepting walkups, those of us with ADRs were being seated 20-30 minutes past our ADR time. That was January of this year and last year; not particularly busy times at WDW.

Garden Grill. I've done this one & enjoyed it, the meal is served family style & the characters when I was there were Chip, Dale, & Minnie (in her farmer outfit). Chip & Dale are fun characters to interact with & I think a good choice for older boys.

Keep trying for ADRs, you will get something!

1) Tusker House starts serving at 8:05am.
2) By the time the park opens, they are already slightly behind ADR times.
3) As time goes by, they get even further behind, usually.
4) I would think walk-up chances are very slim.

All the 4x I have eaten at Tusker House breakfast they ran late to sitting us and people came to see if they can be taken (they were always turned away). I would not go there with the 2 boys w/o ADR's b/c you have 2 hungry kids and a big disappointment. I would keep trying and when you get to Disney call everyday and see.

Eeek that is really making me nervous about our ADR in January! It's at 9:30 and I think they stop serving breakfast at 10:30? I guess I'm just scared that we'll get there and not really see the characters and they wouldn't be refilling the buffet with fresh food since it would be towards the end of breakfast if they seat us really late.
I just need to stop worrying and stressing, cause its not like I can change anything anyways. If they are running behind, they are running behind I guess....

Don't stress. We've had a 10am ADR, got in around 10:20 and the food was fresh and the character interaction was as good as always :thumbsup2

I've had a seating at 10:15 and it was wonderful. I tend to get the latest seating I can get on an EMH morning. That way, it acts as 'brunch'. I have yet to have old food or bad character interaction. The food keeps coming out, nice and fresh, all the time. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

If all else fails...

since you have a reservation for 8, they will seat at least 8 of you. If you can't get a seating for 9, is there one adult who would be willing to "take one for the team" and not eat at Tusker House that morning? (I've heard the Kusafiri Bakery next door has some pretty awesome cupcakes and brownies.)
