Thanks. She's a great dog (I'm Maddy's "Mom"). She loves to curl up with the kids things, although, she had some help with Mickey.

I have a male dog whose ears, face and shape is *exactly* like your picture, but a different coat color (black). Got him from a rescue group as a "lab mix". Asked the vet what she thought he was, and she said "lab mix and something smaller". I wonder if she was thinking pit bull and didn't want to say so. I had a friend say the face looked like a pit as people on here have said.

Anyway, if so, think about the behavior. I say that because the dog I got seems unfriendly toward anyone not in the family. He is great with our other female dog and very snuggly with the kids. He wants to be a lap dog. He likes all the kids in the neighborhood (that he knows) and our neighbors. But he goes crazy over someone he doesn't know. And he doesn't warm up to a stranger after a few minutes. I had a friend stay overnight and the next day the dog was still doing a quiet growl literally every time my friend moved! My other dog isn't like that, so I think it's inborn personality.

Anyway, it's just something you might want to think about. Breeds do have certain inborn personality traits. It's not that a pit mix is a bad dog at all, but think about if it's the right fit for you.

If she does have any pit bull in her, check with your insurance company, they may drop you if you have a pit bull.

Either way make sure to get her to a vet ASAP to get checked out. Most vaccinations won't hurt to get twice. Also want to make sure she's parasite free before bringing home.

As for little dog vs. big dog. I've had both (Lhaso, Silky Haired Terrier and now Shepherds). I can honestly say they all love there human pets equally.

We had adopted a puppy last year that looked a little like her. He was a "lab mix". Along the way, a few people mentioned that he looked like he had pitbull in him including one vet. Our vet told us that it definitely was not pitbull - he was too small - but, that he had a lot of terrier in him.

The dog wound up being very shy and territorial. We had to work a lot with behaviorists and we were able to fix some of the problems. However, I just never felt safe with him around my kids. One time my daughter came into our room at night and the dog started growling at her. It was a tough decision, but we wound up feeling that we weren't the right home for the dog. We put him up for adoption through a local rescue organization and they were able to find him a new home without children.

I don't know that this dog has any of those issues. Don't worry if the dog does have some pit in it. A lot of lab/pit mixes are predominately lab and have great personalities. As to insurance, while you should check with your insurance, I believe that most insurance companies will not have a problem if the dog is a mix with pit in it - as long as it isn't classified as a pit.

My sister has a dog that is definitely lab/pitt. The dog is a bit skittish. But, I have met other lab/pitts that are extremely sweet dogs.

A pit would be a fear of mine because of the insurance issue and also the territorial thing. My Golden is very protective when need be but is very friendly towards everyone. She puts up with so much stuff, when the kids were little they used to tug on her ( of course as soon as we saw it we reprimanded them) and she would just sit there like " are you about done?" LOL

I need to find a dog, whatever breed, that is going to be tolerant and loving towards my kids. DH grew up with Lhasas and I grew up wth Standard Poodles. I have my big dog and now he wants a little one.


We are going to see this one today hopefully. We will see how her temperment is.

Our dog is likely a lab/pit mix and is a great dog overall. Sheena is GREAT with the kids and wonderful with all people, including strangers walking into the house. She barks at people approaching the house, which is fine with me. She gets along very well with our older dog even though she had to adjust when she came into the household (Sheena is alpha). She also gets along with the cats. Her issue is with strange dogs and I've worked with her and she is much better. Part of her issue is that she was not socialized well as a pup (I got her from my sister when Sheena was 1 1/2 years old) and she'd already learned a lot of bad habits. I think it would have made a big difference if I had of had her as a puppy. Our insurance company has never asked us the kind of dogs we have and as far as I know our vet has always called her a lab mix.

Definitely looks like a Pit mix. Looks very much like my friends Pit/Dane mix. (very leggy dog) Hers is an awesome family dog and they have not had any issues. He is just a big ole baby.

I'd say Pit Bull mix.
We adopted a Black Lab mix and was wondering what the other half was and it turns outto be Great Dane and he is HUGE. He is a year and a half and 150 pnds.

I think lab ears are more rounded at the end. They may seem part pit bull ears....maybe choc lab/pitbull mix?? I would take the pic/puppy to a vet and see what they say.

Maybe this one has all Lab personality? As an owner of a Golden and former owner of a lab that personality can't be beat! Hope for the best..
PS Most pits, if not abused or pitted against one another, are also very sweet. Good luck!

who cares? she's adorable. i would go with a mix.

It's important to understand the heritage of the dog you have, because you will have to live with those characteristics that come from its genes.

I was going to say Lab/Pitt as well, but would like to see some more pictures, maybe it was the angle.

Just like with people, there's a whole variety of personalities that can show up in dogs of the same breed. I wouldn't discount a dog based on his genes (with few exceptions) if his personality was awesome, but it would be something I'd definitely want to take into consideration.

i agree to the lab/pittie mix. She looks like a total sweetie.

Even though no one has claimed her, she may be microchipped. You may want to get her scanned before introducing her to the family and growing attatched. She is no doubt a beautiful, beautiful dog.

Yes check for the microchip although she "looks" like a mix(a pit bull/lab) We have a lab and she has some of the same features but the shape of the head and the ears are making me think pit bull. But she sure looks beautiful. Poor baby. If she is a purebreed she would be chipped by the breeder. And if not even some owners chip mutt dogs now to in order to find them if lost.
