What kind of Christmas tree do you have?

We always have multiple trees…4-5. We used to do one fresh tree but no matter the variety, it seems to trigger my allergies. So we are sticking with artificial. We have a small tree with mini ornaments that goes on the bar, a full sized one with white lights at the end of the bar, a tall slim that has all of our Disney and whimsical stuff, and the newest one near the fireplace…which apparently is too perfect as is to decorate with anything more than a star.

We got a permit and cut a tree the first year we were married. Then we bought an artificial tree. First one lasted us about 30 years, bought a new one 10 years ago, a Sears 6 foot tree.
My wife and I covered too many house fires caused by real Christmas trees to want a real tree in our house.

7 ft. Balsam Hill tree for the last 10 years. My sweet husband knew how stressed I was with my mom being sick and in the hospital so while I was at the hospital all day yesterday he set up the whole tree without me. I was so excited when I saw it. It brightened up my day.

We have artificial trees. We have a 7 foot tree in the dining room in front of the bay window. We have another 7 foot tree in our family room. We also have 2 small (3 feet?) trees on each side of the fireplace in the dining room.

I switched to an artificial one a few years ago because I was always worried about a fire and refused to put the lights on after a week or so. When we got the artificial tree, we realized that my yearly Bronchitis/Pneumonia didn't happen. I knew I was allergic to the sap as I would break out in hives but never realized I was really allergic to the tree. I was also worried about creepy crawly things after seeing what came in with my daughters' tree. I got a prelit one that changes colors, so my husband at least is happy with that. I was hoping to put it up already, but my grandson was sick on Sunday, and he didn't come for dinner. I need him to get the tree down for me as it is a little on the heavy side and my husband can't do it since he had his strokes, balance issues and I don't have the time to spend the holidays in the hospital if he falls.

I am hoping the youngest cat has outgrown his tree climbing. Last year he was only a few months old, and the tree was a challenge to him

within half an hour my son, who has autism and couldn't tell us what was going on, Had a full-blown sinus infection where prior to getting the tree he hadn't had anything. He's allergic to pine.

Took my parents years to figure out why I was always "sick" at Christmas. Once they figured it out and got an artificial tree, I was no longer "sick" at Christmas.

Artificial - three of them (one more in storage we haven’t put up in years). One slim 9’ in our hallway that has all my wife’s Lenox ornaments, one 7’ tree that has all our kids’ ornaments and ones we’ve collected from our travels and now one in our lake house that my wife has decorated with a blue and white theme. The other one we used to put in our dining room, but haven’t put it up on recent years.

Do you like your Balsam Hill? I misspelled it earlier. I spelled it Ball Some Hill, lol. I don't know anything about it or where to get it, but I see the ads on TV from time to time. We plugged our current one in this weekend, but several lights weren't working. So we're going to have to get a new one. And DW wants a Balsam Hill.

We have had a couple of Balsam Hill trees and loved them. They are almost too full to get ornaments on… depending on the kind you get. They are rugged as well.

Growing up we always had artificial, my mom hated the needles. I guess they had real a couple times either before I was born or too young to remember. One year when I was a teenager they tried real again, didn't work too well.

I have always had artificial since I have had my own trees. I did have a cat for a few years that basically destroyed my tree every year, LOL. The one tree was deformed from him hanging on the branches. We bought a pre-lit tree for the first time when we got married, I only put ornaments about 3/4 of it so he wouldn't get them. Then one year I gave up on it and got a small pre lit tree (I think it was 4 feet) that I could put on a table and miracle of miracles He didn't touch it once. He died the 2nd or 3rd year I had that one. For the last few years I didn't put up a tree at all (no time, no space)

We just moved to a new house this past May and I am excited to decorate. I bought a new pre-lit tree from Walmart, it's 7 feet. I just put it up and decorated it today. The lights have all sorts of different lighting patterns, blinking, fading, alternating color and white, I like it.

Living Room tree has all white twinkle lights. Then I add some red lights as an accent.
Family Room tree is multicolored incandescent bulbs (I’m not a fan of LED)

We used to walk around the tree farm for what seemed like forever, in the cold while DH searched for the "right one" and while I loudly reminded him that it was not a lifetime commitment, just find a decent one and move one. I mean, literally, I spent less time picking out my daughter that he would spend on a Christmas tree - and we sill have her 18 years later.

I got tired of the chore, the watering, the needles etc and stopped doing a live tree several years ago. Now we have only artificial trees. One very skinny 12 footer in the foyer, one very, very fat 8 footer where the live tree used to go, several full width 7.5 footers and all the rest are 7-8 foot pencil trees. Each tree has its own theme.

I grew up with live trees decorated on Christmas Eve, my husband with fake trees decorated on Thanksgiving, so when we married we compromised by putting our tree up a week or two (depending ) before Christmas and alternating years between the two kinds of trees...over the years of course we'd get lazy or busy or the budget would be tight so we'd just use the fake tree. This year is real tree year though! Will be a fresh cut one. Since last year we have a new pup in the house and I've already caught him trying to make off with a oversized ornament that is part of a decorative thingy on the porch so I'm wondering how he's going to deal with the temptation!

Now, the annual debate: Colored lights or white lights?

Another case of compromise in our home - I'm a white lights and less is more kinda gal, my husband is a multi lights and lets make this place look like the Christmas store exploded in it. So, outside gets demure, simple while lights on the porch and a large white light wreath, same with the main floor of the house. Finished basement (where our Christmas Tree is and where our family will gather on Christmas Day) is the explosion of color and nostalgia and whatnot.

In terms of fire & a live tree, our preference is to only have the lights on when we are home & awake. Otherwise we keep the lights off. Same with the other holiday lights, but I do have the outside lights on timers so they may be on already depending on when we get home. But it is entirely possible to have a live tree and negate the fire possibility.

I’d love a real one but we’re in an apartment condo and the humidity control is terrible. It’s so dry inside that a real tree would be a pile of needles and a twig in no time. Our current tree is a slim 7’er that fits perfectly in one corner. I never, ever buy pre-lit, so it should last as long as we’re in this home.
