What kind of car do all of us DVCer's drive?

We have to have 4WD and I LOVE my '05 Chevy Tahoe. DH keeps thinking I should get something new and pass it on to him. I see right thru his ploy!!! Unless something changes dramatically I'll drive it until it won't move.

I did look at a car for the family though - something lower for DM to get in and out of. A used Audi A6 almost had me. It was the only one I got in where I thought I wouldn't completely mind not driving the Tahoe.

A 10 yr. old Lexus which I love and will probably keep it another year or so. My DH drives a '04 Camry and loves it, too.

i have an '07 Chrysler 300 and love it, I pack a lot too and the trunk can fit A LOT!! Also, the back seats are pretty roomy, not that I ride back there but we have never had a problem with friends fitting back there.

ME: 2003 Mazda Tribute

DW: 2008 Mazda 5 (she always gets the new car!! )

We are not Mazda die hards, but I must admit I have not had problems with either vehicle (I hope they don't hear me!). The Mazda 5 is quite a nice car because it is not as large as a Mini-Van or SUV, but it is larger than a sedan. Actually as far as possible cargo space, it has more room than my car. It gets about 30MPG as well.

I have an 09 Ford Flex that I LOVE LOVE LOVE!! I am already trying to talk DH into a 2011. DH has a Dodge Ram but he plans on trading that in for a F-250. I also have a mustang GT convertible that is my summer car.

We love our Fords.

I'm on my second Chrysler Sebring convertible. I know, Chrysler, right? They've always done right by me. I love these cars. They look good and they drive great. I'm a believer!

Chrysler has done right by us also. We're still driving our 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan that we bought in late 97. We've put 220,000 miles on it since then. It takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Four of our six children learnt to drive in it. Nuff said. I've been trying to convince my DW that its time for her to consider the next generation minivan. No luck as long as the old family truckster continues to run like the day we drove it off the lot. It still averages 29 mpg on the highway, even when fully loaded with kids, luggage carrier, and the cast iron skillet DW insists on bringing for cooking. It still maintains a high comfort factor compared to the new ones of any make we've test driven.

From you list I would rule out the VW. VW makes the worst built cars so in the US. They have phenomenal failures now and then. Not often but not acceptable for this day and age. Thier engineers and assembly lines should be ashamed of their products. Many like the style and are fooled into buying these rotting lemons.

The Fusion is probably best now. The Malibu and Accord I would say are even for second. The prius despite years of hype has had tons of recalls. Toyota in general is in a downslide. Don't let them fool you.

My VW is not US-built. I also think it's a little strange to tell someone who has already said they drive a certain brand and really like it to not even consider that brand.

Have you picked up a copy of the Consumer Reports New (or Used) Car Buying Guide? It was really helpful to us. They also have an online subscription with all the same info. It includes reliability data as well as crash test data, which I think is really important when there are kids in the equation.

We love Hondas. We have a Civic and a CRV. We actually made the switch to Honda after a frustrating experience with a Saturn that died before it was paid off.

I did tons of research before each purchase. Hondas are rated well by owners because on average (I'm sure not everyone has the same experience) they have fewer maintenance problems and generally just keep running longer. For that reason they have higher resale values. We wanted cars we can pay off and keep driving (so we can go to WDW more often!). We've had our Civic since '03 and I kind of hate to push my luck by saying this, but we've had no major repairs. I think we replaced a door handle that had some wear, but that's pretty much it. We take it for regular maintenance and it still looks and runs like new. If you want something she can drive through college and as she gets started on her own, it's a great choice.

The CRV is only a year and a half old and still under warranty (which we haven't had to use yet).

Also, keep in mind the smaller the car the easier it is to park and the fewer friends (and laundry) she can stuff into it.

DH and I have always driven high end automobiles. We have always paid cash but keep the cars forever; plus we love the performance, luxury, and the dealer service, ( they always pickup and drop off a free new MB loaner).
Currently I am driving a 2005 Audi A6, and DH is driving my old 1996 MB E320 wagon along with his summer toy; a 2004 Volvo C70 convertible. With the kids getting bigger and with fuel prices going higher, we plan to finally replace the wagon with a larger and more fuel efficient 2010 MB ML diesel suv, or a new MB E-class diesel when they come out this summer.

DW drives a Hyundai Elantra (2003). It has been surprisingly maintenance free and we would get another.

We need a 4WD so I have mostly driven a Subaru over many years (they are great) until last year we opted to get a Suzuki SX4 mainly because it is just about the cheapest 4WD you can get, and get a few MPG better. It is little, but I enjoy it and It did exceptionally well in a difficult winter. Can't yet speak for maintenance.

My family got me a loaded 2008 C70 for Mother's Day year before last. I absolutely adore it. It handles like a dream, even in New England winters. The only weather it doesn't handle well in is an absolute blizzard (got stuck out in one of those last year. Got home OK, but it wasn't fun). The hardtop convertible mechanism has worked beautifully, and the sound system is amazing. Gas mileage is ok, but let's face it, that wasn't my primary reason for wanting this car! The GPS is super easy to use. Seats are amazingly comfortable. I was a little worried about potential leakage with the convertible top, but when it is in sedan mode, you can't even tell it is a convertible. No wind noise, no leakage, even in outright downpours. Huge trunk, adequate space even with the top down. And the mechanism to lift the lowered top to put groceries, etc. underneath is the coolest thing ever. Love it!!! Best midlife crisis ever

Just bought a 2010 Nissan Murano. Drove the Edge and the Highlander and decided the Murano was the best crossover for me. Never have had a new car before. This one had 8 miles on it when I bought it. I like the no key feature and the BOSE stereo is the best car stereo I've heard that was not a custom system. I keep my cars forever so I'm hoping this is a good one. So far so good!

I am a Honda gal from WAAAAY back. I currently have a 2005 Pilot which has been wonderful (knock wood). My first car was a Honda Prelude...as was my 2nd and my 3rd. THEN along came DS and we needed a "family car with 4 doors". Got a Mazda 626 which I drove into the ground...very few problems with it (at least not until I went over 100,000 miles). After that died at abroun 140,000 I went to a Mitsubishi Montero. I liked it OK but there were a few things that bothered me with it...then I decided to go back to Honda this time. DH has been driving an Audi A4 Cabriolet since about 2003 I think. That thing has been nothing but problems & repairs (anywhere from $3,600 for transmission repairs to most recently $7,100 (in January) for a new (rebuilt) engine!) And never mind the DEER that like to jump in front of it! If he ever so much as LOOKS at another Audi I swear I'll string him up!! IMHO you can't go wrong with a Honda. I just LOVE the cargo space with an SUV. We camp & ski & go to the beach...LOVE the 4WD part too.

2002 Honda Civic w/ 48,000 miles (I live close to work) that has been a dream. Dealer offered to buy it back when it was in for an oil change.
