what kind of camcorder to buy?

Do they even call them camcorders anymore? I am so out of touch with the new stuff I probably don't have the terminology correct.

Anyway, I currently have a very old camcorder that records on mini VHS tapes but am looking to upgrade to something digital....I assume most you can buy are digital now?

Any suggestions for something EASY to use and under $250? I don't need all the bells and whistles....cause heck, I can never figure them out anyway.

Our search led us to choose between Canon and Sony. We went with Sony, but I'm sure we would have been just as happy with our choice if we went with Canon. I strongly recommend miniDV instead of recording directly onto DVD. While it might sound convenient to record directly onto DVD, magnetic tape is considered to be a far superior storage medium for video. You will invariably have to edit and remaster your recordings anyway, before you make your final DVD presentations.

My Sony has a button on it labeled "Easy". It actually works. I highly recommend it.
