LAX is $100 cheaper per person. However, SNA has a lot more fans on this board, it seems. Regardless of which we choose, what is the best way to get to the resort (Grand Californian)? What is the price difference in shuttles/cars between LAX and SNA?

LAX also has cheaper car rentals than SNA (generally). If we're renting a car, then I tend to fly into LAX. If not, then we tend to fly into SNA and take the Disneyland Express. Does depend on fares/rates I find at any particular time though. Also depends on whether we've got the extended family...if so, then we tend to fly into SNA just because it's more convenient.

Karmel Shuttle is the only way I ever go from LAX to my Hotel/Motel. It is by reservation only and they do not loop around the airport. You get off the plane, grab your luggage/carry on, out the door and into the shuttle and it's off to your hotel :)

Have an awesome time :)

Which of these would you choose?

Option 1: nonstop flight to/from LAX at a cheaper price

Option 2: flights with layovers for $100 more

Option 1 obviously seems the best. We're just concerned that getting around LAX (finding luggage; finding the shuttle) may be crazy and not worth the stress.

What would you do?

We were just in CA (miss it already!) and we used DK Livery to get from LAX to Paradise Pier. It was 88 dollars one way for 5 of us, including a car seat and that included gratuity. He was professional, on time, courteous and we had an excellent trip to the hotel. I highly recommend him!

Option 1 for sure! I've never had trouble navigating LAX. Zero stress the last flights I've had land in LAX.

I must be the odd man out because we will always pay more ($50) for flights to SNA over LAX any day....Easy airport, 20-30 minutes to Disneyland after landing, rentals usually very cheap through thrifty (in fact we are paying with tax in Sept. for 1 week for a premium car about 138.00 total), but we have a small child and in and out is the best solution for us.

Option 1.

LAX is confusing for the residents picking up their friends and relatives. To the traveler, however, it's always been extremely simple, for us at least. The baggage claim area, at least the last time we were there, is right there in the area (I consider them to be "pods"...I haven't looked at a map to see if this is what it looks like, but it's what it feels like to me) where you've landed. It's not like at my airport, Seatac, where you might land and come into the main terminal on one side, but have to walk all the way to the other side to get your bags. I've only seen one, maybe two, carousels in any given area I've ever landed in.

The one complication we run into when taking Grayline's Disneyland Resort Express, is that we get in really early, when they only run once an hour. And we always managed to land so we miss that hour's pickup. LAX is super-boring to wait in, once you've exited the secure area (and outside the secure area, if I think about it). We tend to deal with the boredom by slowly walking up to terminal 1, so we're first on the bus.

I've never taken a shuttle van *from* LAX that I recall, but since they pickup more on a schedule, especially Karmel, I bet it's easy. Just walk outside the terminal you came into, walk to the island and stand under the big sign. (oh wait, they do like you to call when you have your luggage...don't just stand there and expect them to know, follow their instructions, of course)

I've been enjoying Karmel, by the way. They don't troll the airport. This is a good thing. DS and I once came into Ontario (in a cost-cutting measure that did NOT work out, as I didn't know their shuttle pricing structure was entirely different than SNA and LAX), got into our SuperShuttle van, waited. Finally got going, were just about out of the airport, and the driver turned right back around to slowly troll for more passengers. It was a super-hot day that I was NOT dressed for, DS was little, we were hungry...just not good.

I took the SuperShuttle for my July trip and rented a car for my August trip. For me, renting a car is the way to go since I can just get in the car and go anytime I want.

We used DK Livery on our last trip too from LAX. As you say very professional & nice clean transport.

Option 1. Much as I love SNA, LAX just isn't that difficult. As bumbershoot said, for the traveler it's actually quite simple. If you have carry-on, it's even easier though checked baggage isn't difficult. I've used the DLE bus and I've grabbed a shuttle (no reservation ahead of time) and both were no hassle.

The main difference to me is the length of time to get to/from the airport, the traffic, and having to plan for those things going back.

ETA: Almost forgot one of the important things about choosing option 1! No transfers!! I would MUCH rather do a non-stop, and when you save $100 on top of that, it's a very easy decision for me~!

We fly into SNA and LGB... I find LAX dirty and hate waiting for a flight out of there  And we take a cab to/from... its quick and I tried the whole pre-reserve a shuttle thing, and we seemed to have a hard time meeting up with our drivers in a timely matter--I think we are faster off the plane then they expect. So now we just step outside the airport and grab a cab.

I've been looking into this quite a bit lately as we are trying to plan for a trip early next summer. We are leaning towards LAX merely for the fact that there are more DIRECT flights going to/from Chicago, more flexibility and better pricing. We've already decided we are NOT renting a car, so we are looking at shuttles. If I can save enough, I may splurge and get the kids a limo ride from the airport to the hotel. But Karmel shuttle seems to be highly recommended on these boards. I'm still a bit iffy on the best limo service.

I checked Karmel's site, but it only listed vans as options for our family of three. I am waiting on a quite from DK Livery on a town car.

We prefer to rent a car do we can stop and shop for drinks and breakfast foods for our room. Then we also have it if we want to go somewhere other than the parks

Did you check their fleet link? They have cars and everything.

I clicked on the fleet link, but then whenever I entered our info to get a quote, it just showed the vans. I may just call or email them about the town car though.

**If you get a town car, do any of them make stops at a grocery store so you can grab a few things? I would like to grab some lunch meat and cheese, but don't know the best (aka cheapest) way to do this.**

I have never used a town car myself. I just reserve a spot on the shuttle :) Probably best to call about the town car and ask that as well.

Have an awesome time!
