my kids will be around 10 -11 when we go. and I think they too old for a kids meal?
if they have to order off the regular menu, I am looking for suggestions of where /what dishes your pre-teens like at DL and DCA.

I don't have any kids, but I was a pre-teen not too long ago :) (ack - ok 10 years ago haha) Some of the kids menu items, probably would not fill up a 10-11 year old. Here are some ideas

DLR:
* Bengal BBQ - all the skewers are awesome, depends what kind of meat you like
* Golden Horseshoe - chicken nuggets, what kid doesn't love chicken nuggets? (on the regular, adult menu)
* Hungry Bear - burgers and sandwiches
* Plaza Inn - pasta and fried chicken
* Rancho del Zocalo - Mexican food
* Redd Rocket's - pizza, pasta, and salad

DCA:
* Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta - you guessed it! pizza and pasta
* Flo's V8 Cafe - ribs, chicken, beef, perfect for a big dinner!
* Taste Pilot's Grill - burgers and salads

Hope this helps! Have an amazing trip!!

I have a 12 year old DD who for some reason has never liked hamburgers. So here are her favorite meals at Dland:

*Plaza Inn - fried chicken dinner (we split one dinner between us as portions are huge)
*Trader Sam's - flat bread pizza and panko crusted green beans plus fun non alcoholic tiki drink
*Paradise Pier Garden Grill -Chicken skewers with rice and tziki (sp?) sauce
*Goofy's Kitchen for dinner - she still loves seeing the characters and likes having so many non-burger food choices at the buffet
*As many Dole Whips and churros as she can talk us into

My 11 yo DS says the junk food is his favorite: pretzels, churros, ice cream, dole whips and pizza. He does like Bengal BBQ and Pizza Port.

My kids are teens now but their taste hasn't changed....Plaza Inn fried chicken is by far their favorite Disney food and that's between both DLR parks and the 4 WDW parks. :thumbsup2

My kiddo, who is now 11, never really cared for the kids' meals.
DCA:
Clam chowder in a bread bowl
Ghirardelli, anything there lol

DLR:
cream cheese filled pretzels
churros
Bengal BBQ Chicken skewers
Monte Cristo, but he can only really eat 1/4 of it
We split the Plaza Inn chicken dinner
We also split the chicken meal at Rancho del Zocalo
Apple pie caramel apples

Any of the character meals since there is always something he loves

We also bring in granola bars and almonds for snacks in line. Since he typically isn't allowed caffeine, the stop by Coke Corner for a flavored Coke to share is something he looks forward to.

Hi! :wave2: I have two pre-teen boys who are pretty picky eaters. Just to let you know, you may order a kids meal for them, they just may charge you more, but will give you more. My boys liked the kid's meal mac 'n cheese served at most places. Here are some more foods they liked:

Plaza Inn: Fried Chicken
Ariel's: Mac N Cheese with the Goldfish Crackers
Award Winers, Coke Corner: Hot Dogs
Chinese Place CA forgot name: Fried Rice
Red Wagon: Corn Dogs
Frontierland Stagecoach and Golden Horseshoe: They loved most food here, chicken strips/nuggets, fried cheesesticks, and Funnel Cakes, Fries

Both boys ate their way through the parks with snacking, they has lots and lots of popcorn, Mickey Prezels with cheese, Churros, etc. :clown:

Hope this helps.

My son loves, loves, loves the turkey legs and the steakhouse 55 breakfast (steak and eggs). He also likes plaza chicken, French toast at Flo's, goofys kitchen and any of the hamburgers.

My daughter likes Goofy's kitchen and carnation cafe. She will usually share a salad with me at other places.

DD10 (11 tomorrow) says Dole Whip Float is her absolute favorite. But for meals -- loved BTM BBQ, especially the ribs. She ate more there than I did. Also recommends the turkey leg at various carts. And the fried chicken at Plaza Inn. She liked the all the flatbreads at Trader Sams/DLH. She liked (not loved) the pizza at Pizza Port. Really liked the red beans and rice with sausage in New Orleans Square. Loved churros and constantly tried to get me to buy one for her :cool1:

DD14 had chicken nuggets everywhere she could get them. Or plain pasta with tomato sauce. And churros. Lots of churros. She also liked the chicken at BTM BBQ, although it really wasn't worth it for us with her because she had maybe one piece and they charged us the adult price since she's 14. So like $25 for one piece of grilled chicken and some cornbread :( She also loved the turkey legs. Soft pretzels anywhere were her favorite.

When asked what they liked, both of them remembered fresh fruit plates at the pools and fresh fruit snacks in the park. Really good when it's hot.

As for the kids' meals -- they are TINY. DD10 looked at me like I was crazy when I handed her a kids burger at that restaurant by Pooh. It was slider-sized. If you're planning on getting your pre-teen a kids meal, be prepared to share some of your food with her!

They both loved the Mickey Mouse Pancakes at River Belle and the dessert plate at Ariels.

If they like junk food, DH and DS10 both had the mac & cheese hot dog - topped with bacon bits - at Refreshment [Coke] Corner on Main St. for the first time this trip and they both loved it.

The Cove Bar has really good appetizers that my kids like: sliders [not burgers], wings, lobster nachos.... Be prepared to wait for service as they never schedule enough servers/bartenders (and do not be dissuaded by the hostess who will quote 30 minutes to every person who walks up :lmao: - we've never waited more than 10 minutes.) It's really a pretty and relaxing place to sit and have a drink and share some tasty snacks.

Whitewater Snacks has a variety of items - the carnitas nachos are fantastic. DS likes the burgers there, and the breakfast sandwiches.

DS loves the breakfast burrito at Tomorrowland Terrace. (So do I!)

If your kids like burgers, DS's top 3 are:
1.Storyteller's
2.Jazz Kitchen Express [without the garlic mayo]
3.Taste Pilot's [the burgers are awful there, but he likes the toppings bar!]

The DL kid's meals are usually too small even for my 7-yr-old daughter. Also, most of the kid's meal is filler - bland carrots and apple packets and drink; the entree is tiny.

My twins are 11 1/2. They don't typically like kid's meal choices, so things like Mac n Cheese and hot dogs are out. They prefer (and we prefer them to) split a regular adult meal. However, these are favorite items that aren't necessarily healthy choices :goodvibes:

Jazz Kitchen beignets for breakfast.
Garlic and cheese twists (also, the strawberry twists) at Maurice's
RFC because they like the setting
Blue Bayou--same as above

My son was 9 this last trip (9.5 if you ask him) and the kids meals are just too small.

A few adult meals he ordered:

Pasta at the Plaza Inn
We shared the monte cristo at Blue Bayou
Chowder bowl (and the breakfast bowl) at the Wharf
Turkey dinner at Flo's V8 Café
Fish strips (good size!!) at Golden Horseshoe I think it was?

I have an 11yo and 13yo. 11yo is super picky and will order off the kids menu and we supplement with snack type foods.

Corn dogs, pretzels, popcorn, ice cream etc were all big hits.

My 13yo eats anything and everything not really sure he tastes anything as he inhales the food :rotfl:
