What is your favorite site at the fort and why?

Yeah, I'm over thinking things a bit. But I am pretty new to the bigger travel trailer. Getting the pop up in a tight spot wasn't to bad. I just always fear rolling in and there being all kinds of obstacles to dodge when backing in.

We have a mini camper that can fit about anywhere, but of the three different sites we've been at (2000, 200 & 300), we've enjoyed 200 the best. It's a close walk to the Settlement and bus stops there, or stops along the roadway for buses to the Outpost and Meadows.

One of the best memories I have of the Fort is walking home (to our camper) to loop 200 from the Settlement on Christmas Eve; it was a gorgeous night, soft winds blowing and the night was lit by the many decorated campsites around the loops.

We're staying at one of the tent/popup sites for our next trip at the end of June, and I hope it'll be Spanish Moss Lane (loop 2000). There's a single tree in front of the bus kiosk that has had the moss wafting in the breezes each time we've stayed there. On our trip after the last major hurricane, we were afraid the tree and moss would be gone, but nope :) It was still there as though kept in place by the spirit of Walt himself :)

We are staying in a tent/pop-up site in April in our truck camper. This will be our first stay at FW. I had no clue you could request sites. Looks like I have more research to do.

Actually you can requests loops/sites within the level that you're paying for--for example, the tent/popup sites have two loops, one being loop 2000 (Spanish Moss Lane) and another that I *think* is 1500--not sure on that one. Since you're paying for that level of site, you can (hypothetically) request, say, site 200 in loop 2000. You won't be guaranteed that site or loop, but they will make a notation of your choice.

The practicalities are first come first serve in most cases, but they are usually very accommodating if you check into the Fort as soon as possible. I usually ask for a site close to a bathroom because old age :) and they've usually put us as close as possible. Once we were assigned a site that was kind of uh-uh for us, and since a nearby site was empty the Cast Members were fine with moving us there.

As anything, if they're really swamped with people streaming into the Fort to check in, your mileage may very.

Thank you for taking the time to explain all that.

As stated you can request but are not guaranteed. However when you check in they have a book of all the sites with dimensions and they can reassign you a site that is available. Our first trip there we had a preferred site but had a big tent (no RV) and the site wouldn't work for us. They showed us the sites in the 2000 loop and we picked one from the book, got to the loop and found a "better" site and just called the front desk and they let us swap on the spot. They are very accommodating when they can be. This year will be the first time in our new travel trailer.

Ssssshhhh, it's a BIG secret! :poop:

Seriously though, since we don't rent a golf cart and don't care to wait for buses, we like to be near the Marina for the short walk to the boats, food, and shopping.
